Hibbing/virginia
I thought the best highlight is when he got put in the box for doin it. He was mad that Hibbing's D beat him one on one and Hibbings guy was half his size!

Re: Hibbing/virginia
true... nico checked him cleanly then picked him up and through him in the box. strong kid but come on.. it was 100% unsportsmanlike. he should have been thrown out. if it was anyone else on either teams, he would have been thrown out. i don't see what the virginia student section was cheering about. clearly uncalled for and cheap. if you want to see a clean check, you should have seen king's HUGE hit in the first period right by virginia's benchHHS HoCkEy FaN wrote:I thought the best highlight is when he got put in the box for doin it. Right now, it would surprise me if Virginia looses in the First Round to Greenway, Virginia has no Goaltending, thats a main foundation for your hockey team is Goaltending, because Virginia wont be able to Depend on Nico and Mcgillvary to win the game for you, ecspecially when if you lose your done.

While it was entertaining to watch (mainly because its just not something you see every day), the Sacchetti incident was rather stupid on his part. His team was already down a man in a 4-2 game. That penalty put his team in a 5 on 3 shorthanded situation. Luckily for him, they killed off the first part and drew a penalty when Kishel came out of the box and nearly had a breakaway. I don't think it warranted being thrown out for, After all, it was a clean check until he picked him up and dumped him over the boards. He didn't belt him from behind or sucker punch him, and there was never a serious threat of injury. It really isn't much different than tackling a guy and getting a holding penalty.
As for the rest of the game, in front of a packed arena, Virginia came out of the gates fast and dominated the first period outshooting Hibbing 9-5 and had a heavy territorial edge in play. All they managed to gain was a 1-0 lead on a tip in by Jared Meittunen off a Mark McGillivray pass.
Hibbing came around after the first break and dominated the second, scoring 3 goals, one on the PP by Kapella and one short-handed by DeCenzo sandwiched around a goal by Marsh. Shots were 15-9 in favor of Hibbing as they bottled up Virginia in their own end several times.
The third period was close for the first 12 minutes as each team scored (Kapella for Hibbing and Sacchetti for Virginia) and the play went back and forth. In the last few minutes, however, it looked as though Virginia gave up and Hibbing smelled blood and scored twice (Marsh and Stompohar) to put it out of reach. Shots ended up 12-10 Hibbing for a game total of 32-28.
Marchuk played well in goal and he was the difference. He kept Hibbing in the game as he withstood a Virginia first period blitz and utimately held Virginia to two goals. -- Something that has only been done one other time this year (Irondale on Dec. 15 when Phillip DeKanick stopped 47 shots).
Virginia's goaltending was not great, but a few of the Hibbing goals were nice shots into the corners and a couple of nice passing plays. The last two were probably a little weaker. If that area doesn't improve, Virginia will not get out of the semi-finals. Hibbing has scored 13 goals in two games against Virginia on a total of 58 shots. That's nearly one of every four shots finding the twine.
Virginia will still probably get the #3 seed although it will be contended much more closely by I Falls because of the final score of this one. That would pit them against Eveleth-Gilbert in the opening round if it does end up that way. We'll find out for sure tomorrow night.

game
dont get me wrong nico is a great player but he seemed to have a temper problem. he was letting everyone under his skin.. a couple hibbing guys got some decent hits on him and that seemed to throwoff his game.. he wasnt trying to score he was looking just to hit people and i doint think that is his game.. he is a tough kid though.. that hit on dye was clean until he picked him up and threw him into the bench.. it was a good physical game though.. Anyone agree that the reffing was pretty bad though.. the refs were calling everyting on Hibbing and was letting the VIrginia kids get away with alot of stuff. ANyone agree or was that just me?
