Section 1A

West loses 3-2. Mayo scores two late PP goals. End of game had kind of a bench clearer. As teams were leaving the bench after the final horn # 20 for Mayo absolutely runs West Ryan Anderson and cross checks him from behind. Both teams square off and scrum. No West kids kicked out just #20 for Mayo who started the whole thing.
Absolutely the best reffing I have seen all year and the whole end of the game scrum was really out of character for how the game went. Game was fast paced and pretty much controlled by West as shots were 40-20 West. Donahue was awesome in net for Mayo as he made several highlight reel saves.
Not really an off night for Blasing in net as Mayo scored on two pretty one timers and a nice deflection out of midair.
West had a nice jump in there step tonight. Just could not get enough past Donahue.

This time of year it is going to matter who the teams best players are and who has the best leaders. These types of players are going to caring there teams and get them to that next level. As far as best players in the section i think walton is the best he has been around the longest. He really works hard and has good skill to go with and is not affraid to throw is body around. Leveiman (sp?) might be the next it is either him or Meyer from Waseca. I have never been a big fan of Litchfield as far as a hockey player. When i saw New Ulm play i didnt really see a standout but they do have a good goalie that I like and he could get scary during tourney time. Krogen for Marshall is there leading scorer he is a good young player that has good hands and size same with Mellentine and i like Petersons speed and Boerboom does well at defense. Marshall has more speed than people think they just do not use it to drive the net and get pucks to the net like West and Albert Lea do.

Marshall still having trouble putting the puck in the net.a2anda10 wrote:AL 9 East 3 shots 46-22

Seeds are in, should be being tabulated now.
Any chance West gets the top spot, and things are shaken up?
No chance that West gets the #1. Had they beaten Mayo by a significant margin and played Faribault and beaten than before the seeding meeting rather than Friday night, then they may have had a chance. If West brings in like they did last night against Mayo i think they have a good chance. Donahue was the best goalie I have seen and he played outstanding last night. Sounds like the kid can steal a game at any time

Seedings.
The seedings don't say too much. You have to win all of your games no matter what seed you are placed. The team that can handle the pressure will move on. Look at last year, give Albert Lea some rope and they will probally hang themselfs again. The #1 seed is always the favorite unless they get knocked out by a lower seeded team. LET THE PLAYOFFS BEGIN.
Ok I know East is terrible that is no secret. They have a couple good players but overall they are on a big time down year with a lot of young kids. But you can't tell me that Albert Lea didnt have at least 3 soft goals and the officiating wasn't terrible.
Anyways I hate to keep being a homer but how is East the 8 seed when the have 3 wins against the 3 teams seeded ahead of them? I know they only have 4 wins but Austin only has 5 and head to head games should count for more than record.

You'll have to contact the 11 coaches that voted, get to the bottom of this conspiracy!katoguy wrote:Ok I know East is terrible that is no secret. How about the fact that Waseca beat East 8-5 and has to travel to East.
You can go round and round with these arguments. West has an argument for the 1 seed, I think.
With as down as this section is. Seeds 5-9 look to be a toss-up, all have arguments to be higher/lower.
IMO, best players in 1a:
Walton-very hard worker, has speed, rarely gets taken down
Arendt- most underrated/not talked about player in the section, biggest playmaker, is hurt atm we'll see if he's healthy enough to play sections
Leivermann- sees the ice very well, smart player
Litchfield- good player, with speed, lacks at times working hard
Also good is boerboom, mellenthin, stewart, kirby

Yekcoh,
6-4 is still a loss last time i checked. Yes, I am from AL but not a parent or player. Since when is a shot to the head not contact? The ref did the right thing in taking both of the players for 2 minutes. That's what needs to be done in those situations. According to the "New Standard of Play", no player is allowed to gain a competitive advantage over the opposition by using his stick in any way. Read the rule book on that one. I was sitting right on that blue line. As the East defenseman pulled the puck back to get ready to shoot, the puck squeeked over the line. No doubt about that one.
For the jv game, look at the ratio of penalties from East to AL. It had to be at least 3 or 4 to 1 with AL getting more. I'm pretty sure that I would've seen a stick fly across the rink, for some reason i never did, wait that NEVER HAPPENED. Watch the game next time before making yourself look like the idiot that you are.
Like I said before, 6-4 is still a loss last time I checked.

We all agree the reffing for the AL East game was terrible. It seemed like they just got some bums off the street to do that game because of all the weak penalties and the obvious calls were missed. Overall AL was looking much better than East but at least East is showing something these past few games by at least scoring. They had a run of games getting shut out and now if they can keep scoring and if a goalie keeps some pucks out of the net they might have a chance.
Re: Section 1A Brackets
That would be awesome if East beat Waseca. I'd love to see another East vs. Albert Lea game. I don't care who officiates, East won't score 3 in that game.a2anda10 wrote:#9 Waseca at #8 East on 2/20/07

with kolstad/meyer's ability to score and marshall 2nd game and potentially playing west/new ulm in the final i think its doubtful that AL's goalies will get shutouts in all 3 games, if thats who's goalies you were talkin about. i got a little confused because the goalies mentioned aren't AL's goalies which are Casanova and Waalkens.katoguy wrote:wow ive heard those 2 are pretty good. i bet they have shutouts in all 3 games with either one of them
