Just wondering how many points he had last night? And what is regular season total was?
I'm honestly looking forward to seeing the Flyers play, hopefully they make it downtown because with their offense, it sounds like they would be a fun team to watch. It's games like Little Falls vs. St. Thomas that always make the state tournament a fun time, nobody would know what to expect from it because of how different their schedules are. Other than the few "experts" who just assume St. Thomas would kill them because Little Falls doesn't play anyone. Going to be interesting and Congratulations to the young man on a great season!

He had 4 goals and 1 assist last night I guess. He now has 62 goals for the year I believe. The record was 61 I think??
Good night and good season for the young man![/quote]

Flyers win CLC; Festler breaks record?
RICHMOND - Jared Festler had four goals and one assist to bring his season totals to 62 goals and 109 total points and the Little Falls Flyers defeated River Lakes 9-1 to win the Central Lakes Conference title for the first time in school history.
Festler's 62 goals this season is believed to be a single-season state record, according to Flyers head coach Tony Couture.
Festler's linemate Ben Hanowski had two goals and three assists and linemate Beau Hanowski had three assists as the Flyers finished the regular season with a 13-1 conference and 22-3 overall.
Lukas Jorgensen added a goal and an assist and Michael Sperl kicked away 22 shots for Little Falls.

Good point Bugsy. This kid is the real deal. I think alot of the people talking about him not playing anyone, have not seen this kid play. Hopefully they will see him at the X this year again so they can see how good he is!bugsy wrote:Didn't Festler lead the Elite league in scoring and that is against the best of the Minnesota kids. Obviously the kid can score against any competition. Obviously Motzko at SCSU thinks he's pretty good. Give some credit where credit is due

What do you think the people that are complaining that the scoring numbers are tainted because of a soft schedule would have to say if he had 'transfered' to Holy Angels or Hill Murray or Brainerd to play a harder AA schedule?vppp wrote:nothing against festler.. but look at their schedule. numerous people in MN would already have broken it by now if they were playing the same teams as little falls is
You can bet it wouldn't have been "what a great move by a very good player to transfer to a school that plays against a higher quality opposition on a weekly basis to make himself a better player and show he's the real deal"! Oh no it would have been farrrrr from it.

This link details the chase...

Even though Mayasich likely scored about 76 goals in '51, it looks like Jared will be credited with the regular season goals record. Five more (in what looks to be a fairly easy three section games) will give him more total season goals than Neal's 66 in '77.
The points record is going to be a lot tougher though, as most are now aknowleging Aaron's 131 in '79. Jared needs 22 to tie and 23 to break that record. For Jared to have a shot, Little Falls would need to win their three section games. If they do that, they'll be gauranteed at least two games at state (consolation or third place game). He's averaging 4.36 points a game. In three games at that pace, he'll wind up with 122 points. In five games he'd end up with 130. Six games... 135.

I do not always post, I like to read you people' s thoughts. Some of you have difficulty thinking. The young man scored 60+ goals in a season, it would be interesting to see how many of you experts scored 60 goals in your careers! I was intrigued, so I drove down to watch him, he is an excellent hockey player. He does not give up, he does not loaf, he is not cocky or arrogant, he treats the other team with respect. I think many of you are jealous that your name is not mentioned with Henry Bouche, John Mayasich and Neal Broten. Also, that TEAM is a little better than you think. Everyone has a FIRST line at the tournaments, but not many as good as Festler, Hanowski & Hanowski. Perhaps some of you should think a little more before you let your emotions spill.

Has Eriah Hayes and Jared ever been in the same game? How do they match up? similar careers.stitches wrote:I do not always post, I like to read you people' s thoughts. Little Falls (22-3-0) and La Crescent (15-8-0) haven't played eachother this year. Eriah was an alternate in the Elite League, but I couldn't find any stats for him. I think you'll have to find somebody who's seen them both play to get an idea, sorry.LeapinLizards wrote: Has Eriah Hayes and Jared ever been in the same game? How do they match up? similar careers.
not to take anything away from him
Yes Festler is a very good hockey player. But when he score 4 goals in a 9-1 contest, the 4th one being with 11 seconds left in the game, and none of his goals determining the outcome, it takes a little bit of luster off his accomplishment. Yes he has scored many many goals and is a great player and has a bright future ahead of him, but many of his goals are scored in the same manner that they were scored in his most recent contest. I just think his numbers are inflated, If he were in the cities he would probably have around 40 goals and 80 pts, still tops in the metro and among the highest in the state.
Congratulations Jared, you accomplished something few others have done or ever will do.

Nope, sorry Angus, not even a LF fan, I just like the game and to watch the skilled players. I can handle only so much unintelligent jibberish and then I have to speak up. The kid is good. By the way, so is the Little Falls second line. I asked in another thread about them and got nothing, none of the "informed" on that thread knew about them. After watching them, I think they will do OK. When I read some of these posts, I thought it was a one man show, not totally true. I guess if I had a horse like Festler, I would ride him as far as I could.
Jared Festler is a very good player that should be recognized for his outstanding season and point production. However, there is always going to be those who need more convincing as to just how good he is and/or the numbers are. I have seen him play on a number of occasions and in various leagues and he has always been towards the top in point production. There is no doubt that he has a nose for the net, works his tail off and plays the game the way it's meant to be played. However, there still needs to be acknowledgement about the level of competition he plays against and the fact that in lopsided games, he seems to still be seeing a fair amount of ice time when other coaches/programs tend to sit their better players and let others get ice time and playing experience. None of this is his fault and should taint the perception of this talented player, but it should be considered when putting these numbers into perspective. I also think there should be a little more recognition for players like Ben Hanowski who seems to have as many assists as Festler has goals and a person would assume he is the playmaker on the line - also as important, and if not moreso depending on a person's point of view, than the person doing the scoring. He is also a very talented player and has a very bright future ahead of him.

I agree that this is a huge accomplishment for Festler and LF. Who cares if his goals wernt "gaming winning" or created a win. Anyone who gets thats many goals in a season isnt scoring just game winners or 2-1 games...comon now get real....i agree that there is ALOT of jelous people...probably mostly parents or alum whos kids were never that good or themselves who never got anywhere in hockey.....but i do see a good side in everyone lol....

If were talking about breaking records set by the Mayasich, Spehar, Lecy, or the Brotens, I think it's fair to assume that none of those guys set records winning games 2-1. I'm sure they scored MANY of their points in blowouts while less talented players were riding the pine.
As a coach, the only way for one of your players to break a record is to do what previous coaches have done before you.
As for the Hanowskis, obviously they should be given credit. Considering Ben is doing what he's doing as only a sophmore, it's at least as impressive as what Jared is doing. Unfortunately, impressiveness quotient isn't something you can put in a record book.

Stitches - Just giving you the business. If you follow the board at all, you would see that I am a big fan of the kid and think he is the real deal. And you are further correct that he is a class kid and respects other players as well as the game and does not get involved in the chippiness and trash talk that seem to have become glamorous in today's game. Further, the 2nd line is decent with #19 Jorgensen being a good all around player. By far the best team in Section 4A and should be in the tourney, but that is why they play the games.....stitches wrote:Nope, sorry Angus, not even a LF fan, I just like the game and to watch the skilled players. When ever someone has that many points in a season, you can detract from them in multiple ways, but he is dangerous and a point is a point.
My main point is how many points how many of neal broten's points were contributed to winning the game, and how many came with his team up by 3. he played on the greatest line in minnesota histor, so you cna't argue that festler gets more chances. also both Hanowski's have plenty of goals.
How about SCSU recuiting classes? This year they get Jordy Christian and Aaron Marvin and then Festler. This is great for them. They are having a great year this year to. If all three of those guys buy into the team thing, they will be very good. Im pretty sure the dawg pound will have plenty to be happy about for the next few years.
