Edina @ Minnetonka 2-15-07

Post by HShockeywatcher »

The (20-2-1) Hornets travel to play the (15-4-4) Skippers tomorrow. The winner will be the favorite to win the conference, however it does not actually decide the conference. They tied at 3 in Edina with Edina on a 3 game win streak and Minnetonka tying 3 of their last 5.

Edina should win this one. Hopefully, this big game doesn't shape up like the Benilde game. Will we see steam coming out of Pauly's ears?

Teams need to come at Edina hard right from the start. Edina usually tries to set the pace in games with speed, hard hits and finishing checks. If Minnetonka takes the game to them from the beginning they could beat them.

There's already a thread about this game, but I will still take the Skippers 3-2.

Actually if Tonka wins tomorrow, they are conference champs.

Tonka is 4-0-2
Edina is 4-1-1

Both have 1 game after this one, so a Tonka win decides things, but a tie or loss leaves it up to Saturday's results.

Sticking with Tonka 5-3.

Edina is well rested, angry at Tonka and I don't see Edina losing.

Im going to take Tonka 4-3 in what should be a classic! both teams played well at braemar and i think Tonka will feed off their home crowd tonight. The first line of Paul, Coatta and Gardiner is going to shine tonight, and watch for big John Twaddle to have a good game.

Skips vs. 'nets

This one is for conference bragging rights, but all eyes are on the bigger prize: 6AA title and a trip to the X.

Edina needs to be careful in their next two games against Tonka and Wayzata, they could wind up third in the CLC:

Tonka 4-0-2 (1-0-2 vs Wayzata and Edina)
Edina 4-1-1 (0-1-1 vs Wayzata and Tonka)
Wayzata 3-2-1 (1-1-1 vs Edina and Tonka)

After 1:

Edina - 2
Tonka - 0

Tonka has 1 shot... from outside the circles and it took them 15 minutes to get it.

4-0 Edina

So, Edina with 11 points and Tonka with 10. Tonka will beat Hopkins to get 12, so an Edina tie with Wayzata will make them conference co-champs, a win will give Edina the conference.

Hornets 4
Tonka 0

Shots were 29 to 19 in favor of Edina.

Scoring: Leer (2), Reber, Cowan

Edina clearly outplayed the Skippers although all of the refs calls went one way, towards Minnetonka. Edina had 6 penalties and Tonka only had 2 one being a roughing in the semi-brawl. Cashetta played very solid for Edina and deserved the shut out, and the team deserved a win.

Congrats Edina, they deserved to win tonight. They totally dominated the 1st period, outshooting Tonka 9-1 and taking a 3-0 lead.

Tonka outplayed them in the 2nd and missed some great scoring chances, taking the lead in shots at 16-15. Tonka also outplayed the 1st half of the 3rd, with Edina the edge for the last half of period 3.

Funny game though, Tonka missed 3 to 5 close in chances inot a yawning net, including one off the inside of the pipe that came right back out ealry in the 3rd. Just wasn't their night.

Bottom line, Edina played well and deserved the win.

Yeah, it was bizzare.. Tonka had plenty of chances but couldn't hit the net to save their lives. Alot of their shots weren't even close to the net.

I think the poor quality of shots Tonka had spoke volumes of Edina's defense. Both Gleason/Brehm, and the Sophomores completely shut down Paul and his line....

It was a phenomenal game, a little chippy but thats to be expected, Edina looks like they are getting in playoff form. Following a few games with poor first periods they came out tonight and stuck it to the Skippers...
