Good game by Moorhead. The puck was in the Hill zone most of the game. Moorhead dominated play and had some good goals. They are by far a better team. I don't see Hill beating Roseville or White bear in sections

The Spuds' passing was really 'on' today, especially on the power play. They looked like a well-oiled machine. They also outworked and outhustled H-M the whole game except for a couple of defensive lapses at the end of the first period that let Hill right back in it.

WHERE IS ANKLETS NOW??

After today's performance, I don't see Hill getting past Centennial to even face Roseville/WBL. The MSHSL really needs to address these private school conferences. Twas a good game for the Spuds but I think I saw a weakness that will likely be exploited by the powerful metro offenses they will face in thier post season run. :)

I can't disagree with anything anybody is saying here. I've seen a bunch of the top teams this season - AHA, HM, Roseville, Edina, East, CDH - but this was probably the most dominant game I've seen. I mean, I've seen some blowouts against inferior teams this season, but for a team to go on the road and just completely control a good team like HM, that's saying something. This was a completely different Moorhead team than I saw against Wayzata.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a 3 horse race for the AA state title... Moorhead, AHA & Edina.

Congrats to the Spuds. Totally outplayed, out hussled, outclassed the Pioneers today. Hill was exposed as just another good team that really can't be mentioned as one of the state's elite this year. In most regards, they have exceeded expectations this year. I don't see them coming out of this tough section, especially the way thay have played that past two weeks. They will be much stronger next year. However, I will still be pulling for the guys in sections, just that reality may be they will not repeat as sections champs.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Phillippi got pulled because of his play. Phillipi is a junior and the backup is a senior. Since it was the last game of the regular season and with 10 minutes left in the 3rd, down 6-2, I think the coach just wanted to give Mcenaney some time in the net during a game that was already over. He probably won't get a chance to play again in Sections. I saw it as a nice gesture. Phillippi actually played pretty well.

Nick Larson

Post by hotpotato81 »

This is the first time I had seen Nick Larson play. I was disappointed. He has good size and definately has some skills, but it didn't seem that the effort was there today. Maybe I just caught him on an off day.

I really thought he would be a force to be dealt with for the Spuds. As it turned out I didn't think he was even the best player on the ice for Hill. Don't ge me wrong. I'm not here to bash him. I applaud his decision to stay in High School instead of going to Juniors or going to Ann Arbor to the National Development team. I'm sure that was a difficult decision to make. One that I would hope more players would choose. "You only get to go through High School once". I just didn't see a player that would seem to walk into a D-1 school and play at that level right away.

Not trying to start an argument, just looking for some other objective opinions. I'm not a scout and I believe he already has his ticket to the U, and they can't take that away at this point. I just wasn't that impressed with his performance today.

You are not alone in your opinion. I too was looking for more ... much more considering he's a Mr. Hockey finalist.

I don't know if I have a good enough eye to pinpoint what exaclty was different between why he was so ineffective today vs. the last time I saw him when he was effective against Wayzata, but you have to give Moorhead credit. I think they did a good job of keeping him bottled up and to the outside - he never really got inside to do any damage. He definitely looked a lot better the other time I saw him. I don't know, but there may have been a mental thing going on today... Moorhead jumped out so quick, HM was just knocked back.

Your view has been shared by many out there, so you're not alone by any means. It's been noted that Hill asks him to do too much and things that he is not great at, such as hauling the puck up the ice and getting the puck into the offensive zone himself, which is not his forte. He is a guy who could definitely use a year in juniors, and he is getting that next year before he is off to the U. He has the tools as is evident by his high draft rating and commitment to the U, but it seems he is just a tad inconsistent at this point.

This was a great team win for Moorhead. The thing that impressed me the most in this game was the hard work by the third line of Lee, Johnson, and Becker. All game they put on an absolutely smothering forecheck, forced turnovers in the offensive zone and turned them into goals. With three great lines and a dependable4th line, I'd say the spuds weak point yesterday was their defense. Not having Hedman hurt of course. I thought john Lee played a terrible game, and the two HM goals in the first came on homerun passes through dmen who were sitting on their heels. THat being said. If Moorhead can tighten up on D, and keep rolling on offense, they are primed for one hell of a run.

I agree
Da Spuds will beat this green team with ease. Come Section finals they will be facing a new goalie on a green team they have beat decisively twice. Will the new - sophmore goalie allow the Rams to squeak by and pull off the upset? Lee beat Rapids tonight with 44 saves - 17 in the second period.
Like I said Da spuds would beat this overrated green team with ease. Moorhead has an awsome team this year and hopefully they can finally get the trophy. The Spuds need to not overlook 8AA or they will not be going to the X. They will most likely see Lee for the first time in the mini-Ralph - so this may not be the cakewalk most expect. Tough to beat a team 3x in a season.
