hocky
hocky- really????? the majority of the best squirt player will be your best highschool players in the future. you obviously havent watched alot of hockey. i know there are some cases where some kids get better and some fall off thats why i said the MAJORITY. i can go up the list where i live now the best peewees were the best squirts majority the best bantams were the best squirts majority and yeah the best highschool players were the best squirts majority. ness was the best squirt here in roseau now hes in highschool and mentioned on the hs board steady as a top player. i dont just see this here i see it in every association so if yor holding out for yourself or little johnny to just one day appear on the top of the list dont hold your breath because thats in the minority.
onemore time
id like to add one more time to this its only squirts crap that people just dont want to get on this board. those of us talking about squirt hockey dont really care that its only squirt hockey to you. ONE MORE TIME FOR THE CHEAP SEATS I DONT CARE ABOUT WHO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE THINKS IS GOOD AT THE BANTAM OR PEEWEE LEVEL. their only peewees and bantams who cares it conversation thats all it is. people come on here and talk about hockey and some of the players that play. this board is not a precurser for the future nhl draft trust me. so if people take about squirts peewee bantams thats their choice. im sorry if you werent the best squirt player on your team and probley not the best peewee or bantam and will more than likely finish your hockey career as a subpar hs player thats really none of my concern. if you watch squirt hockey you just might like to talk about it so on and so fourth. SO ONCE AGAIN IF YOU DONT WANT TO DISCUSS SQUIRT HOCKEY DONT CLICK ON THE LITTLE SUBJECT LINE THAT SAYS (SQUIRT A) THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

watchdog- is the cold in Ram Country getting to you? You need to relax dude.
Majority do you define that by 51%? I'll agree with you that 1/2 of the top kids in an association end up being the good PW,BT & HS players. But that 1/2 is in most associations 3 to 5 players.
It's obvious to me you haven't seen some of the Great Squirt Players in the metro area. They play all the season ending specialty tourney's (Selects, Super Series, Elite Classic), summer AAA and Fall AAA. I just wonder how many of these great squirts will be around at HS.

The funny thing about these kids who play year round AAA is that, statistically, they have the same small chance of playing D1/professional as the kids who don't. Every team within every level within every association within every state that has youth hockey seems to have some kid who everyone thinks is the next big thing. It really cracks me up. My oldest of four boys is a squirt A this year. When I'm on the ice coaching my termite or mite, I'm embarrassed to think how "into it" I was a few years back. That's not to take anything away from the fun of just talking about this stuff....but there sure are some hardcore parents out there who lack perspective.
aaa
what happens to kids at a young age who play all summer is they develop alot faster sooner or later they dont improve as much and alot of the other kids catch up. when i say majority i mean 80% you have about a 20% turn around rate.

watchdog- Your lucky up north if I'm assuming correctly.....All your athletes play hockey and it's the Have to Play Sport. Here in the southern half of the state, we have B-Ball, Soccer to contend with. The other aspect we have is cost.
Up north I have no doubt that great squirt players continue to move up and be great players, down here there's not the hockey culture. My kids would love me to no end if we could move to hockey country.

squirts
got to back dog on this one,I have one in Highscool and a 1st year squirt A,my older one played AAA all the way up from age 8,he played on one of the top AAA teams in the state, the kids who were good then are good now,I know alot of these kids that are having success in highschool, and I knew them when they were squirts, look over the scoring leaders in the state, and I could tell you what AAA team most of them played for,I remember seeing Ness at selects in st.cloud he was very good then, and I'm quite sure he played for the northern wings,Yes there will be others who step it up,but like dog said the majority of squirts that are good now will be good later. So wright there names down whalin,Nanne,Pitlick,Jungles,Kaske,Boesser,Spinner,Sheehy,Walker,Gustavson,Duda,Daugaard,Stoeffer,Cass,Muck,Slaughtery to name a few, sorry Dog not to familiar w/northern squirts
5dog 1/2 of my older son's AAA team will play D1,thats just one team and the success rate is high on the other good teams of that time pretty good odd's if you ask me

waylon
waylon give this a thought on those two kids were talking about. you guys played the fargo flyers and lost 3-0 i think thats what i heard. well this kid scored eight goals against that team in two games... ive seen him do this consistantly against other quality teams all year.
strand vs whalin
8 goals against that flyer team in 2 games is very good, whalin is capable of putting up big numbers against good teams he had 50 some goals last year as an 8 year old playing squirt A's last year,we played WBL/ whalin ended in a tie,of course if it wasn't for him it would'nt have been close I think he had 3,and was dangerous all the time,I will end the debate this weekend I will be looking for Roseau,I love to see those northern teams do well,it's what hockey is all about I hope Moorhead wins it all this year, when that group of seniors at moorhead were Bantams they were by far the best team, and I'll bet they wer'nt to bad at squirts either!!!!! is strand a '96 and how bout that Broten kid,now theres a stud is he a '96,and I'm still searching for a Phenom '97 Go Spuds

Waylon......Let me clarify. I'm not saying that ANY kid playing youth hockey has the same statistical chance of playing D1/professional as AAA kids or kids who play year round. I'm saying that if you take a standout youth hockey player who does NOT play year round but plays other sports and is a great athlete then he has just as good (or slim if you look at it that way) chance of playing at a high level. Statistically I am right when I say that if you polled every D1 and NHL player, you would find there is no advantage to playing year round. Some played year round and most did not....that's a fact. To your point, though, you're right....if you took a good AAA team and compared it to a good squirt team anywhere in the state and said, "which team will produce more D1 hockey players" then, of course the AAA would be the answer....because more of those kids have a DESIRE to play beyond high school. But I'll take the top 3 or 4 kids on my squirt A team and tell you that if those 3 or 4 kids have a desire to play beyond high school then they have just as good a chance to do so as your AAA kids regardless of whether or not they play year round.

Re: yep
I think you misunderstood me. I have no problem with you or anyone else discussing squirt (or peewee or bantam) hockey on this board. And, like you, I really don't care for the superiority complex of the bantam crowd. Squirt and PeeWee hockey in Minnesota is good hockey!watchdog wrote:im only asking to or making the point if ya dont want to talk squirt hockey stay off the thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That said, you weren't discussing ...you were SHOUTING. When you post strong opinions, dog, people are going to disagree with you. It doesn't make them ignorant, which is what you implied with this:
It just means they see it differently. FWIW, I happen to know, through earlier private messages, that the man you directed this comment to played the game, coaches the game, and has three sons who play. His middle boy happens to be, of all things, a very talented squirt A.watchdog wrote:you obviously havent watched alot of hockey
My personal opinion is that it is ridiculous to be tossing the names of 10 & 11 year olds around on these threads like it is draft day in a rotisserie league. Ditto for PeeWees. Bantams and up is a different story. But that's just my opinion and so I choose not to do it.
So discuss away. And for those of you heading to Fargo, have a great weekend. That includes you, watchdog! (this isn't personal ... just a disagreement) I have a nephew playing in the "B" side and I know he's really pumped ... sounds like a really great time.

ok
yeah hes a 93 will see how it playes out in the end. on the erickson kid i think hes a great player but needs alot of fine tuning to be in the elite class. better vision and hands for sure. omdahl has it all and hes only a first year. now for the last part of my answer dont ask me anymore on this thread about bantams and peewees. this is a squirt thread and their is about a hundred other threads for people to brag up their bantams and peewees why do you have to come on this thread to do it. is there no end?
waylon
yeah waylon that 16 from wayzata looks like a great player especially being that young. when i was in fargo i watched eagan, edan praire, lakeville and fargo. he was the best player i saw. their was one on desmoines #7 played almost the whole game against us he was very comparable. i didnt see anyone as good as strand. he didnt show up for the championship game the boy was past the point of tierd and just coouldnt go. i know that was the diffrence in that game.
AAA
5DOG,
good point you made,I blieve you are right about the good athelets, making it while not playing all summer,My son skated 140 hrs last summer working mainly on skills,i would have hoped he would have made the gap bigger between him and the athelete who played baseball and skated a little, but it didn't happen this year,my son is also a good allround athelete but did not play baseball do to a heavy hockey schedule, time will tell.I know alot of kids who go all the time to these clinics trying to gain an edge, but how good can you get at a young age?Is there such a thing as to much?
