I think it will be Roseau #1 playing Brainerd (maybe Grand Rapids).

The other cross-over will be
Moorhead playing Bemidji (Red #1).

With Roseau and Bemidji at State.

Maybe Roseau / Moorhead at State.

I think you definetly want to be #1 in Red.
Not that Moorhead is not good or that Roseau is unbeatable.

But right now Roseau is playing very well.

Hibbing, Virginia and East Grand Forks...
anything is possible, but the top five are good and playing well.
Hibbing has a tough road.
I can't see Virginia challenging Roseau or Moorhead.

Elliott, I would have to agree with your picks possibly adding GR to the mix going to state. It'd be great to see our Warriors go but it sounds as though they're not playing very good right now. Anything is possible.

A battle between GR, Bemidji, Roseau is brewing and you can't look past the Spuds.

What's missing from this region?

Post by wannagototherink »

the only one missing form this region is...........Duluth East. It's unfortunate that they are forced to play down in the cities. But I would bet that everyone up north is excited that neither the Hounds, or Hermantown are in that region this year. Isn't it funny that Brainerd is what two hours south of Duluth/Hermantown, yet they are heading north and those two teams are heading south. Goofy Minnesota Hockey people. Not you Elliot, the other guys...... :D

All North Teams on Rotation

Post by northwoods oldtimer »

wannagototherink, All of the northern districts are on rotation to take part in a metro regional tournament the next 4 years. This season it happens to be District 11 and next season it will be District 12 (formerly IR) than I believe District 15 followed by District 16. That rotation will continue until you have only 1 region for northern Minnesota which will most likely occur in the future due to declining enrollment in the outstate.

Thank you, but I do know all about the rotation, I don't think it will be right next year either when the range is forced to travel south. In my opinion, and I live in Woodbury, Minnesota Hockey as ALWAYS catered to the needs of the metro, and if they truely had their way, they would have the outstate teams have their own seperate playoffs and tournaments all together. Elliott that doesn't include everyone! It's not just the teams up north either, ask programs like New Ulm, Owatonna, Albert Lea, Austin, Worthington how much they feel like Minnesota Hockey cares about them.
To be perfectly honost, if you don't live in the Metro you are looked apon as inferrior, and even in the Metro, if you aren't Centennial, Edina, White Bear Lake or Eden Praire than to hell with you. That is just my opinion, so please don't come back at me with your furry. I think Minnesota Hockey needs to be restructured. I'm sure they all want to see hockey grow and continue on for everyone, just some more than others and until we get more Mark Elliott's involved at that level a lot of the crap that happens now will continue.

We tried to bring the new region format up for discussion last summer(??), but had to ahave unanious supprt to suspend the rules.

One board member (who does not represent any youth organization) voted against it. After the summer meeting we do not change things for the coming year, so it stayed this way.

Pete Hill, Director for 11, did everything he could.
After the season (state), feedback on the new regional system would be appreciated.

It should be some great hockey! There isn't one dominant team and each is capable of beating the other. Don't count Brainerd out, Rattlin Cages. They've beaten Moorhead, Roseau, GR and Virginia. If that team shows up......look out! If the district tourney team does, it will be a very long weekend for the boys in blue!

Otter, I like your optimism however, they lost to Bemidji and on the biggest stage this year they played poorly i'm told. Many people have seen how good this team can be but the question remains, can this be the group that matches the hype we're fed every year? Are we to believe they can change their fortune before regions or is being at regions good enough for the kids. Heard that they were a little tight at districts and maybe the monkey is off their backs being this is how far they got as peewees, we'll see. Maybe Brainerd should be happy just getting to regions.

Your right about one thing Otter, from what i've seen, when this team plays well...look out!!

We hope for the best next weekend for this team, looks like a solid regional tourney.

As I see it the Region is wide open with at least 6 teams with equal chances for 2 spots. As in any playoff it depends what team shows up. The "home" [ GR, V, H ] teams will have a slim advantage of not traveling. I think the 2 teams at state will be in the running for a good showing.

I agree that this Region will be wide open, my favorites being GR, Bemidji, & Roseau.

Curious how you figure the "home" teams of GR, V, H are not traveling?
I would imagine all teams will be moteling it for the weekend.

I would doubt those 3 are in a motel. Look at a map. Doesn't really matter like I said the 2 winners will come from the top 6 teams. GR, V, H all have much less travel time than the rest.

Agreed that top 2 will come from the top 6.

Grand Rapids excercises some demons with two big wins today over Bemidji and Brainerd. Both games were exciting to watch, and both came down to the end. 1-0 over Bemidji, and 5-4 over Brainerd in ot. The Brainerd game was completely controlled by GR until the 3rd when Brainerd took over and came from two back to tie it at 4. Brainerd overcame two 5 on 3 situations in ot to stay in the game, but in the end GR put them away. If they can stay focused and play one game at a time, they have a chance to come out of the region. It's been a great tourney to watch so far, and we'll see who's standing come Sunday.
