Right now, without a doubt in my mind, Hess and Lochner are the two best goalies in the area. Lochner probably #1, Hess #2. Keep in mind, we're talking consistent play. Hess had the melt-down at DD that probably cost his team the #2 seed in the section, but that's behind them. Hampton is probably #3, but all the Apollo and Tech goalies have suffered from inconsistent play. Just listen to the fans as a team warms up, you'll see who counts on their goalies, and who puts up with them.
In addition to Lochner and Hess, I'd put Sartell's Goodmanson ahead of either of Apollo's netminders. He's an example of holding his team in a game when his team has no business of being in the game.

The Apollo goalies are average and have not been good enough to get their team a win when they need it by totally shutting down another team. Apollo really lacks talented depth all around.
Tech's goaltending has also been very average, but there has not always been a lot of help in front of them. Tech really lacks a tough physical presence on their defense. They probably have the physically softest defense in the area. Offensively, I can't understand why Tech couldn't mount more output this year as they do have some nice talent up front. In the end, these deficiencies caught up with them quick.
This is where we disagree, put either of Apollo's goalies on Cathedral and they look just as good as Hess. Put Hess on Apollo and play him against some of the teams that Apollo has played he looks "average". Before last nights loss to Bemidji both Apollo goaltenders had a save % of 90 and a GAA between 2-4. I would say that's not too shabby.
oh yeah...that's right Goldy is gthe goalie's dad...

Seeing as both goalies are older than me I find that quite interesting. Can you explain to me how that would work?
