OK, ghs, this begs the question: Who are your "personal favorites"?
And are these going with your heart of your head?
Typically my head will agree with KRACH, but sometimes we differ there too.
I usually will pull for the teams that aren't supposed to win vs. jumping on the powerhouse team bandwagon. The hard part in that though is that often I have players I pull for on both sides due to past "coaching" etc. But besides that, there are some coaches/teams and sub-plots that you have to pull for too, even if your head & all the stats say they'll lose. Every once in a while you know a coach/team/community/situaiton that has been wronged, went through some hard times, persevered, etc. and if you know these stories & facts then most would tend to pull for the "longshot" at times for reasons other than that they aren't supposed to win on paper. I still think the game is 90% heart and 10% skill, and if you believe that, anything is possible for the motivated team - no matter the skill disparity, stats, etc., etc.
After getting off to a terrific start, picking 10 out of the first 12, I've now officially "flamed out" - to quote a title of a recently deleted thread.
kind of intresting... only 3 people picked stillwater to win the entire thing and only 4 people had picked north metro to win their quarterfinal game. and no one got the third place or cons. game right for AA.
Thanks for doing the points standings... I know it's a lot of work!!!
The interesting thing I think it to look at LPH/AP & KRACH. Pretty low totals on those picks...
It makes me wonder if 1) there were indeed a lot of upsets, & 2) if some that went with their heart vs. head may have come out better than the logic of LPH/AP & KRACH.
One thing that I think many mentioned in my discussions at the tourney was that there was a lot of pairity, some upsets, and if nothing else some great hockey this weekend. It's unfortunate that some have to lose, but it was indeed a good event as always...
