Great weekend by SCSU, they deserve all the credit in the world. They skated better all weekend and earned the sweep. But seriously, if you're an SCSU fan, you really can't be calling anyone else out as "chokers", you swept a WCHA series, and a big one at that, but let's hold the phone on the chokers talk until tourney time.

Nice weekend for Huskies need to get at least a spilt against UND-boy did Minnesota show their youth. I think it would be in their best interest if all of them remain in college for another year, because my own personal opinion they would get their lunch handed to them in minors or NHL!

Gophers Freshman

Post by FAQ22 »

Just an observation,,and a strategy Coach Lucia has used over the past couple years. Freshman killing penalties?? I'm sorry, but you should have your strongest, and more experienced players killing penalties at this level. I would think Lucia has implemented a team concept and system into his penalty kill, much like you would for the powerplay. I can guess, why he plays his young freshman in Lucia, Flynn and Carman to kill off these penalties, (saving and resting his horses), but it has now started to backfire a little bit. You need the stronger, more experienced upperclassman killing these penalties..ie...Kaufman, Howe, Wheeler and possibly Stoa or Gordon. Just my though, on a glowing weakness, as the Gophers start to struggle down the stretch.

I think coach Lucia knows what he's doing, I really don't think you're in any position to judge his hockey coaching abilities.

I think I am qualified to know, about as much as Lucia, and Goldy, talk with your brain, and not with your heart. If he continues the route he's going, it could be another early exit for your beloved gophers.

About as qualified as Lucia? Are you Bob Motzko or Dave Hakstol or Mike Eaves? Dean Blais perhaps? If you are, then by all means continue to speak on this subject, but since I doubt you are, I don't understand how your credentials match up. It just so happens that some of the Gophers best penalty killers (Okposo, Carman, Flynn, Lucia) happen to be freshmen. Gordon on the PK? He's awful defensively, doesn't hit and doesn't forecheck or backcheck. I don't see how him being a junior would make him better considering he fails to do any of the above things. Lucia will throw his best guys out there no matter the situation. When you have 13 underclassmen, some of them are going to have to kill penalties.
