Post by Indians forever »

Alternate with Hibbing like they used.. The atmosphere was great at the Memorial Building for those games!

When the Iron Range had three representatives in 7AA, having it alternate between Duluth and Hibbing made sense. With two of those three being gone, alternating between Duluth and a more southerly venue makes more sense than with Hibbing. It's a "travel distance" consideration, especially for teams such as Elk River and Andover.

here is another thought. when was the last time teams like East or Cloquet had to worry about travel time, when they played in the Semi's or Finals?

Then if it comes down to a travel issue the finals should be played At st. cloud state. more central for 7aa teams.

oh for the love of pete, just ask the fine people at Grand Casino Hinckley to build a huge multisport complex, with the exception of GR, that's about as central as you can get, besides, GR is probably gonna opt down to A and then coop with Greenway before imploding into a small, fiercely strong black hole.

I've been thinking....who were the 3 Iron Range 7AA teams, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, and who? It's really really bothering me.

However I think the single A in duluth and the AA in Hibbing, no potential home ice for anyone

Why move it? That was the first time I've experienced an AA final today. That was nasty sweet. I got there a little late and there was nowhere to sit...especially for a group of 4. So we stood in the corner along the boards.

My reason for not moving it...Class A doesn't draw as many fans i'll assume. there is a lot more seating at the DECC than Hibbing. Where would I have watched that game from today? Probably a sports bar.

Falls never opted to play with the big guns.

Good for you giving props to the "saweet" Coach Bus - cool beans to you. I hate the DECC, but you make a good point.

As "sterile" an atmosphere as the DECC is for most high school games when you have 400-500 fans in there, for a game like today's, it was the perfect venue. Three of us, pulling for Cloquet, ended up way up in Section 7 amidst Rapids fans. Man, we had a blast. Okay, the guy sitting next to me from Esko probably didn't Image, but I enjoyed the raucous environment and seeing Rapids play one heck of an outstanding game!

i would like to see 7AA go to a different site than the decc for the main reason that if Duluth east makes it to the final its basically favors them because they play at the decc many times during the season.

I agree they should use some sort of rotation between venues.

Some day soon, I hope to make every section final. Would that be a road trip or what?

The DECC is a DUMP worst ice in the state. The venue needs to be a neutral sight St. cloud would be close to center for travel

i agree the DECC's ice is borderline crap, i was thinking the Ralph but thats too far to travel, now that ya think of it the Memorial Building in Hibbing could host the Double A and maybe the IRA Civic Center in Rapids host the Single A Title.

First, why would they move it to a place with less seating after there clearly was pretty much a packed house there yesterday?

Second, I didn't like the ice at the DECC when I played there, but that's really not the point of this question. WHAT IN THE HELL WERE THE ZAMBONI DRIVERS AT THE DECC DOING YESTERDAY? Did they have a keg in the back or what?

Considering Rapids' playoff record there the past two seasons, I thought you'd think that. :D

Good point on the IRA center problem. for the 7A title game they barely put any water on the ice during resurfacing, it was ridiculous. i was thinking the CARC but that place is too small, the 7AA game would be perfect for the Memorial Building in Hibbing, its too bad we dont have a big arena other than the DECC up here.

It would be nice to see that a home team (Duluth East) would not get an automatic bid for home team advantage throughout the section playoffs. Although, after this year of seeing the Grand Rapids fans vs East fans or Cloquet fans, I dont think it matters at the DECC. Its big enough to satisfy the people that want to see a great game and at the distance it is definetely worth the drive. The better team is going to win in the end and it is probably better for a team to face some adversity before having to face the city teams at the XCel anyhow!
