Brainerd bantam A
I have seen them play.
I know the coaches.
I know some of the players.
I cannot see anyone doing anything intentional to hurt someone.
I am sure the boys I know would not do something to a Bemidji player. They play them in baseball and have respect for each other and good friendships in some case.

Brainerds Bantam A is a clean team. The coach will not tolerate cheap play and will in fact bench ANY player that does anything to disrespect Brainerd Hockey. This includes any taunting or pushing after the whistle. The play in question came with 22 seconds left and was a clean but hard hit. Does anybody know the nature of the injury? This was a great Bantam hockey game fast paced and clean with 4 penalties called during overtime. I know Bemidji and Roseau will represent the North well in State. Brainerd out shot Bemidji 41 - 20 and had a goal waved off. Bemidji's Goalie played well.
Not sure people were saying the hit was cheap. From my view, it was a little uncalled for, and possibly came out of frustration. The hitting player came from the Brainerd bench all the way across the ice. While it was a clean hit in terms of the contact, the nature and force of the hit delivered was unneccesary in my opinion. Not surprising there wasn't a call on the play as the refs didn't call much on any teams. I don't believe the refs affected the outcome of any of the games, but, in my opinion, they didn't control dangerous situations. I say plenty of elbows, checks from behind and interference that has been called in accordance with the new standard of play all season, that were not whistled down. It reminded me of the NHL when they get to the playoffs. The whistles are swallowed for the most part. At any rate, good luck to those surviving teams at the state tourney.
i think that the hit was a little uncalled for the guy came from completely the other side of the ice and although i can understand the frustration and being a player can understand that he didnt mean to hurt him the kid from bemidji was pretty far from the boards and i believe he hit his neck somewhere between the glass and upperboards. I would have called it boarding and given it 5 for injuring the player but i seriously dont think that the brainerd player meant to do it but was just frustrated

I am sorry if I offended you, but apparently you cannot read.
But then again you are only in 8th grade.
Get off the internet and study.
I did not complain about the ref. I was sarcastic in my statement referring to passer who always complains about the ref.
I know you are not happy not going to state, but in time you will realize that you had a good season with a good team and, hopefully, had fun.

Regional Format
Elliot70, I can see what GR3343 is getting @ with the current format. For the tournament we go 3-1 and Bemidji goes 3-1 and Bemidji advances to state. The same holds true for Pool A. GR goes 3-1 and Roseau goes 3-1 and advances. Don't get me wrong. No sour grapes, this is the format, the kids know that and we live with it. However, this format worked well in previous years as there were 3 seeds to state from each region so it worked itself out as a double elimination. On Sunday the losers had a playoff for a 3 seed to state. That seed doesn't exist anymore. Since we now only seed 2 to state from each region then the regional format should be changed to a double elimination format similiar to that they have used in the metro area in the past. I think it is only fair to ALL of the kids who have gotten this far that we do everything in our power to ensure that they have the best opportunity to advance. Just my 2 cents.......
And congrats to Roseau and Bemidji. Both teams have some really good kids and i hope they do well representing the North Region at State. Hopefully we will see you @ VFW state. It is a great match up!

In double elimination, you have the potential double-jeapordy situation where team A beats team B but then loses to team B in the back door. So they split head-to-head but the team to win last goes. I'm not convinced that is any more fair than the pool-play tiebreakers.
There is no perfect system. If someone wins all their games and still doesn't go, then they have a legimate beef. Once you lose, you bring the rules into play whether you like them or not.

what i saw it was a cheap hit .... thats just my opinion though of how i saw it.maby it wasnt.benelli36 wrote:the hit that the brainerd kid had on the bemidji kid was clean not cheap...like somebody else said it was definetly a heavy hit and he hit the boards really weird also...i think its passer 07 SHUT UP about the refs there doing there job and anyway you cant do a thing about em...
and wow i just complained about one game....but its in the past i can't change it.

It is not my team.
And you did not find any posts of mine slamming reffing in any youth game.
But as I said you are still sore, time will fix that and you will realize that you had a good time, on a good team. Perhaps high school will be better.
Bottom line, you and your teammates failed to win the game that advanced you to the next level. Don't brood over it. Start getting your arm in shape for baseball.
After the HS season is over I will have Patrick give you some lessons. You know who Patrick is, right?
Not hockey lessons, though. Life lessons.
Go, Thunderhawks!
I will be there Thursday cheering for them. I hope you get the opportunity, also. If you see me (I am hard to miss), say hello.

All 4 teams had the same record 3-1. If you look at the goals for and against...benelli36 wrote:i think gr kindof got screwed over in regions because they beat bemidji the first game and beat brainerd the 2 game and lost to roseau the 3rd(4th)...bemidji had the same record and they went..dont freak out elliot if i said something wrong about your team now...
and if you just take the games the four tied teams had in common
Roseau 0
Grand Rapids 0
Bemidji +1
Moorhead -1
and if you take all games played
Roseau +11
Grand Rapids +4
Bemidji +7
Moorhead +6
Three seeds to state would have allowed for another game between Grand Rapids and Moorhead...

Pretty tough to compare all games. GR, Bemidji and Brainerd were obviously in a tougher bracket. The other bracket included EGF and Virginia. Not exactly state powers. It was a good tourney though and hopefully we can look forward to battles at the high school level. Adios to youth hockey for me.(That is until my mini-mite really gets cranked up)Good luck to the two representing the north. Watch out for EP, they are every bit as tough as you hear about.
