I think as long as hill comes to play and isnt overconfident thinking this game will be a breeze they should win by at least 3.

Hill by 3 or 4.

If it's closer Hill won't win another game at state.

The Tartans are back

Post by stpaul »

The Tartanites are back. Did you hear what happened while you were gone?

Also...I heard Ryan Furne was back at Tartan early this morning banging on the door. He was begging for forgiveness and asking to get back in. Any truth to that rumor?

I'm sorry, I missed the part where Tartan was posthumously awarded the section title in 2AA. I'm sure it's on the mshsl site somewhere...

I think we need to cut the Tartan program a little slack. I think they are relieved they didn't win their section as it would have possibly meant they would have missed a day or two of school. Kids don't attend that academic instiution for athletic reason, they are there to receive a high end quality education. They learned a few years ago that the high school tournament is way overated. They were quoted in the Pioneer Press saying, "What's the big deal? So you come to St. Paul to play in a 2 day tournament & play a couple games. It took us away from our studies. Thanks anyway but I think we will decline from here on out." Lech wonders if Furne, a by-product of the Titan program, will even show up Thursday...old habits are hard to break.

HM - Tartan

It's hard not to have a little fun with the Tartans.

If only they would have "taken the body" against Woodbury....

See what I mean.

This isn't even a question, if Hill gets 25 shots they'll have 3 or 4 goals. century is an emotional, up and down team. Playing in the X, agaist a private school powerhouse, it can be intimidating. That's why i say they'll fold. Once Hill gets up by two, they'll stay up til the end.

i think hill will win this one. but all the games that hill has played against white bear were closer than they were. remember hill only got 7 shots on white bear to go to state. hill is not that good.

they got 12

and how are they not good if they beat WBL 3 times?
They shut WBL down in the final and played defensive hockey. Were the Wild bad when they did this and made it to the western conference finals?

Hill is good enough that they can play 2 completely different types of hockey very well

First off Hill had 12 shots, still not that many, but they made there chances count. 2 of the goals were snipes, and one was just a great play catching white bears goalie off guard. Hill controlled msot of the game, it may not look that way but 75% of white bears shots were right into philipies chest. Anybody could stand in the net and block shots with there chest.

Also hard to argue Hill beat them three times this year? And white bear beat the number one seed rosevile and got beat by a "not very good team" intresting hockeyforever. I think you will be surprised come tourney time.

In this 2007 Minnesota State Class AA Boys Hockey Quarterfinal match-up, I'm going to go with...

Hill-Murray - 6
Rochester Century - 2

white bear was the better team if they would of pass the puck half the times when they hit the goalie in the chest they had someone on the backdoor. hill was lucky white bears goalie was not on his games. ceckas slapshot should never have gone in. also when white bears goalie played the puck wrong. i still dont think hill is that good.

Well it is not hills fault that whitebears goaltending sucked all year, Hill got lucky eh,,they beat a higher rated centenial by larger margin. Also beat white bear three times this year. Hard to say thats luck.

Section 1 still not strong.

Post by MariottiMan »

Section 1 teams have not advanced to the State semis in 12 years. ('95 Rochester Mayo) Century will put up a fight, but HM will come out on top.

4-3 HM

So if Century pulls off the upset, will it be considered bigger than Burnsville's win?

Upset... maybe?

Post by MariottiMan »

Hmm bigger upset... Depends on who you ask.

HM fans (yes)

AHA fans (no)

Everybody else (who cares, good riddance)

Overall I think the Burnsville, AHA game was the upset of the year (or worth noting)

I forget if it was 1999 or 2000 but Mayo advanced to the semis that year and they played blaine the closest out of any team that blaine the year blaine won.

2000 Blaine beat Mayo in the quarterfinals 4-1, but Mayo outshot them (both low shot totals. Blaine beat Duluth East in the final 6-0.
Mayo beat Jefferson the next day 3-1, but people don't really talk about that much. Was that Saterdalen's last state tournament game????

1999 Mayo gave Roseau a good game 4-2 w/ an emptynetter, then the Spartans lost to Eden Prairie the next day.

The only win since that time for section 1AA was Lakeville (before North/South) a couple of years ago in the consolation semifinals.

If Century beats Hill Murray Thursday it would have to at least be considered a huge upset with the lack of respect 1AA, and specifically Century gets from everyone. Perhaps one of the top 5 upsets this year?
