Matt Arentz....Best Freshman in the State?

Post by AO8-07 »

This Lakeville North kid is a 6'1" 15 yr old that will be playing for the gophs in about 3-4 years!! He controls the game like a senior and has phenominal talent! All i am saying is remember the kids name and keep an eye on him, he's got 3 years of varsity play left!

He's not even the best goalie in his home town!

Yes Ryan Walters and James Saintey both left Rosemount to go to STA.

I suggest you hear of Walters he is very good.

I've seen the kid play 8 to 10 times this year, and he posted a 92% pct in the lake conf with a below average team in front of him playing against much more talent than his team has day in and day out.

Yes. He is that good...him and hjelle from I Falls are in a league of their own. And from what I've heard are both drawing heavy interest from the top D-1 programs.

What?
12/7/2006 Eastview L 6-8 (7 Goals)
12/28/2006 Greenway W 5-1 (1 Goal)
1/6/2007 Chaska L 2-9 (9 Goals)
2/6/2007 Century L 3-4 (4 Goals)
2/8/2007 Apple Valley W 1-0 (1 Goal)
2/15/2007 Chaska L 2-5 51 (5 Goals)
2/26/2007 Marshall W 3-1 (1 Goal)

He isn't even the best Freshman goalie in the Lake. O'Shea from Eastview had a much better year and he is true Freshman at 14 years old.
Arentz is solid we will have to see which goalie prevails once O'Shea grows.

If you win, 1-0, how do you let in a goal.

Look at the Apple Valley game.

RBKRules- Eastview was his first varsity start, and not to mention O'Shea let in 6 in that same game against a team that practically never scored! Both chaska games all 3 goalies rotated a period, he let in 3 not 9, in the first game, and 2 not 5 in the second chaska game. he also had a shut-out against A.V. and shut down politz on THREE breakaways in the 3rd period.
So you had...
Eastview-7 goals
Greenway-1 goal
Chaska-9 goals
Century-4 goals
A.V.-1 goal
Chaska-5 goals
J.M.-1 goal

When really it was..
Eastview-7 goals
Greenway-1 goal
Chaska- 3 goals
Century- 4 goals
A.V.- Shutout
Chaska- 2 goals
J.M.- 1 goal (on 36 shots)

That's a whopping 10 goals off! And O'Shea looked and played like a Bantam all year long. Never controlled the game, and he had much better defense in front of him and faced way fewer shots.

All those players are very good, but the best Freshman I've seen play this year is Mattson from Chask, hands down! His skating and awareness out on the ice is unbelievable! I don't know if I've ever seen a 9th grader run the top of the umbrella on a power play.

AO8-07,

O'Shea didn't play the 8-6 game against North. He played the 2-1 overtime win. Let's just agree that both lads have a ton of upside and three years to prove who is better.

RBKRules,
Alright, we'll pick up the arguement in three years

and sikie22,
yeah, know that i know Mattson really IS a freshman, i would have to agree, he plays like a senior, he is an excellent skater and he has great hockey sense. it should be interesting to see how much better he can get.

I'll give you guys a name: Kevin McMorrow from Park Rapids. Runs the Power play, is 6'1, and is a very solid, all-around defenseman. I haven't seen enough, and would go to say he ISN'T the best Freshman in the State not having seen everybody, but I think he's the best freshman in Section 8A, so keep your eyes out for him the next few years.

Ryan Walters is better than 3/4 of the sophomores in the state. He has a ton of potential and raw talent. Has to be the best freshman in the state. At least top 3!

I think that Jordan Johnson from Hill-Murray is one of the best defensemen in the freshman class
