Re: re: select 14's
The best idea I can come up with is "Independent evaluators" so you dont have coaches making deals to get their kids who dont belong in the first round. Who would that be? I'm not sure if you could have other sections evaluate or not. Might be difficult to find enough guys outside of HS hockey to do it, and then its always the ....... they're just as biased as .... cause my kid didnt make it.
There is a serious problem with the tryout process, or the tryout people. Mn Hockey knows it and hasnt done anything yet to fix it. They are not getting the best kids to the second round because the first round is screwed up. I have asked them to look into the problem, offered help to fix it. So far I get better results talking to myself.

hey i am starting a select six, to be eligable you must six years old and send me a non refundale $495.00 deposit and a baby picture of you with skates on. The first 100 entries will be invited to try out. If i get more than that we will expand to commendate the extra money I make off of all you saps......... if you dont have a baby pic with skates on then add another $250.00 and i will doctor one up for you.. P.s if for some reason i do not get enough entrie for this I will try it for the 7,8,9,10 untill i make enough from all you saps.

outside of the great state
outside of the GREAT STATE of Minnesota, the Select Festivals may be the only time some players have a chance to get recognition. Just about every other state in the country could give 2 shi tz about high school hockey, so kids are playing to get out of there area, into a prep school in New England or perhaps juniors. For a kid from Georgia who plays Tier 2 A level hockey at 15, his only chance for exposure is to spend the dime and work his tail off and make the District team that goes the National Camp. That's the kids that benefits from these types of team, not necessarily the kid from Eden Prairie who has the pond in his back yard frozen over from August to June...think outside the state...and yes, alot of these "select festivals" etc, are money makers...the UNITED STATES is all about making money. The only place you play hockey for free is at the pond down the street. Think about it old school, those of us older than 35...we used to play in our neighborhood with everyone

Re: re: select 14's
First of all, there is a USA hockey select 14 national festival, which is similar to the select 15, 16 & 17's. 11 district, 240 players particapate and the players are assigned to teams with other players for other states. Unfortunatly, Minnesota Hockey chooses not to organize tryouts for select 14's so no one from Minnesota or the Minnkota District get to particapate in the select 14 national festival.
Second, the guy from Bloomington is holding a select 14 tryout this summer, (80 kids by invite) and is taking two teams to Ann Aurbor to play games against each other in front of the same individuals from USA Hockey's NTDP that is looking at the players at the select 14 national festival. Think of it as a private screening for the MN kids with NTDP.
Third, the guy from Bloomington is also very close to these people from USA Hockey's NTDP and they would not do this just for anybody.
