Unless the youngsters improve, Moorhead will be a step behind what they have been for the last few years.

I think that Hill-Murray, Roseau, and Edina will be the top teams next year. Sleepers could be Burnsville and Rochester Century

New Ulm will also have a cake walk to state because of the new sections.

2AA is the best section. edina has leer, gleason, buddish, regan, baker, everson, garrder, garrder, cashetta coming back. i think that holy angels will still be one of the top teams.

STA brings back all three lines of forwards and four of their defense including their top pair. With Crandall in net and revenge on their minds they will be a force. The only thing that could hurt them is kids leaving to the USHL or NTDP. But here's an interesting thought. STA's loss could have been a blessing in disguise. Many of the kids would have left after a State Championship but now they have unfinished buisness and might stay for another year.

Hill is a 1A school in size with a smaller enrollment than St. Thomas Acadamy, therefore they overachieve just to make it to state. Of course Roseau has half the enrollment of Hill but that's another story as Roseau is practically in Canada (especially in mindset). Yes even Grand Rapids has more students than Hill-Murray.
I am not going to come right out and say it but hint hint there is a reason why Hill Murray is good all of the time with that enrollment size and I don't think it is because they develop players.
Good players CHOOSE to play for good programs so you don't have to come out and say anything. Look at their JV roster from last year and you will see that many of this years team played in their organization last year. Many of those who didn't, chose to leave weaker programs to play for a proven winner. I'm not saying that no private school has ever recruited a player merely pointing out that most don't have to. Hill-Murray had about 90 kids go out for hockey last year and only 21 of those played in the state tournament so more than 75% of those who went out for the team didn't play in the tourney and about half of those who went out didn't even get to play JV.
Possibly head in sand? Ignorance?

"LF will need Festler and Ben Hano and Sperl will have to get better."

I think with that top line returning they can cause some destruction. As for Sperl, he just needs some more experience, and to play in some more top notch games.

That will be one horrendously tough section.

I want Festler back next year. What are the odds he or someone he knows looks at this site. Maybe I should start to plead for him to come back next year. Sperl needs to drop to his knees and butterfly more when he faces a shot. I saw him give in a few goals that he could have probably stopped if he would have gotten down and spread his pads.

a look back to bantams

Post by crossbar down87 »

Looking forward to next year and especially to watch Edina. Budish is going to try out in Ann Arbor in about five days and if he makes it I wonder if he will leave. If you go back to bantams for this years senior class it was Edina and Centennial in the State Championship with Roseau in third place. Funny how things change with Roseau being the top team now with Edina and Centennial having to catch up with them. These three teams will have outstanding juniors next year though. Edina having that whole line with regan, baker, everson, budish and gaarder. Centennial having pitlick, stutz, hess. Roseau having ness, landman, lee. Should be a great year.

Next year definatly will be interesting....in my mind the best conference in the state is the Lake Conference but this year was definately a down year i believe even with burnsville making it so far. Next year will be fun to watch with burnsville i believe as the favorite to win it but also rosemount is practically returning there whole team, as well as Jefferson with there only real key lose being Levine. Eden Prarie is always good and eastview always throws in there best so next year will be fun to watch in the lake conference. As far as some other top teams next year I'd say:
AHA
Roseau
CDH
Edina
Moorhead
you know the usual...

CDH are you serious. They are only returning Bohrer and Zimmerman and I have know idea if they are returning any defensemen and they have no returning goalie.

I agree, but LF also needs to improve defensively. Hopefully they were taking notes from Hermantown in that third period. They also need someone to step up to fill Jorgenson's shoes. That's 40+ points and some major hustle gone.

Last year, after state many said CDH would be the favorite just like many are saying Roseau will be for next year. Quick, get on the bandwagon...

If LeBlanc returns next year, I think the Hawks should be one of the best in "A"...

However there is one differnce. Roseau has the tradition of being a hockey powerhouse and they know how to come back year after year after year after year after year..................

If Ben and Festler come back and Sperl becomes more solid in the net (which is a big IF but it can happen), they'll be fine.

As far as next year:

In A, Little Falls will be back, but they'd better upgrade their schedule, or they will quickly exit again. Hibbing is very young and will be much improved, with only DMarshall and IFalls between them and a state berth. Htown should be the class of Sec. 2A. Prediction for State seeds: STA 1, Hibbing 2, Hermantown 3, Little Falls 4.

In AA, Duluth East will be an absolute force next season if they can find a solid netminder. With their schedule they are a definite title game pick. Roseau kids seem to buy into their system better than any other school, they will be the class of 8AA. Can't discount AHA, and Edina might go the whole year ranked first. Prediction for State seeds: Edina 1, Roseau 2, AHA 3, Duluth East 4.
