Lets just put it this way, Moorhead will be luck to make it to section title game next year. They will be really down for the next few years and they will never over achieve with Morinville behind the bench. He will always have the monkey on his back. In my opinion if Moorhead wants to finally win a State Title they should get a new coach with the ability to win a game when it matters. Its nice and all to have 20+ wins each year but he can't win games when it matters. I would much ratehr take a 6-24 record and win state instead of a 24-2-1 record a not make it out of sections.

That's the only way they will win it because then Slappy won't be picking them because they aren't the favorites. Just get him off your bandwagon (shouldn't be hard, he likes to jump) and State is yours.spudsdominate wrote:I would much ratehr take a 6-24 record and win state instead of a 24-2-1 record a not make it out of sections.

2002~~~> Roseville
2003~~>AHA or any other private school
2004~~~>Centennial
2005~~~>Centennial
2006~~~> AHA
2007~~~>AHA
1994~~~>Elk River

Moorhead = never the favorite!
Only got close as a result of the "Great

Runnerup = didn't listen long enough!
Roseau= "State Champs 2007" = finally listened to the "Great

Elk River = "Out of It"!

Big mistake ... and most likely cost them the State Championship this year.
The State Championship was played on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the"little ralph" in TRF.
Still not sure if they learned their lesson.
Didn't see many Moorhead jerseys/jackets/sweatshirts at the tourney this year.
Fair-weather fans?
Did see alot of Alumni though. Guys that played on some great teams for Moorhead.
Two losses and 1 tie during a 4 month hockey season is a commendable season. Throw in the stregth of schedule and it looks damn nice (check out PS2 ratings).
I saw pleanty of "Moorhead" fans at the tourney but they were "hockey" fans. You say fair weather but why would a non-hockey fan go to the state hockey tourney. Most of the folks who follow them during the year are MOORHEAD fans but not necessarily hockey fans. Were you expecting 1500 spud fans to show up an watch the Rams kick everyone's rear. I didn't get the jist of your post.
I talked to a handful of section 8 players that called the Rams win over the Spuds a HUGE upset. Pretty nice words from kids that actually PLAYED against both teams.
The bottom line is that the RAMS represented section 8AA in an exceptional fasion. Watching them shake with excitement with about 20 seconds left in their championship game was awesome. Mean while somewhere in Moorhead or in the X bathrooms there was a Moorhead kid with his head in a toilet stool throwing up. What a monumental dissapointment it must have been for these kids. My heart went out to every 2006-2007 varsity player. The sting will take some time to go away.
2 season ago I think a group of Spuds thought they had it wrapped up against AHA and it wasn't meant to be then either. Look around the nation and you will see that many of them have done pretty well since. People also talked about HOW LONG it would be before they made it back (many graduating players just like this year). The answer was ALMOST 2 years. I am hopeful that it will only take that long again.

I have been wondering. Was this year more painful for spuds fans then the state runner up years?whos_it wrote:Stitch Lips wrote:Moorhead has abandaned tradition.

TD577,
You know, pain is all a product of time. Time heals. I recall when Moorhead lost the last title game and it was very painful. In a short period of time you focused more on the great year the kids had and years from now it will be awesome just to think back about BEING in the Minnesota State Hockey Tournament.
This year, FANS will recover in a short period of time and look forward to next year. As for players, that chance has come and gone and my guess is that a very small handful of them (the ones who don't move on in hockey) will think about it every March for the rest of their life. A little less each year. Soon they will have sons and daughters a realize that there are things way larger than missed opportunities in high school.
Just one mans thoughts.

Which cut is the deepest?
It hurts, it hurts, it hurts, forever!
When you lose a game you had counted on winning, it hurts for a long time. Roseau still talks about the 1-0 loss to Warroad in the semifinals of the Region 8 tourney in 1960. That team was supposed to extend Roseau's Championship string to 3 in a row. Never happened. It hurts!
The Spuds were supposed to win their 1st title this year.

Moorhead will definately not be the favorite next year, but then again maybe we will see a reversal of fortunes. I can see Moorhead losing to Roseau twice during the regular season next year and entering sections as the #2 seed. If they get some underclassmen to stepup and progress throughout the season, maybe they can upset the #1 seed in the section finals, just like Roseau pulled off this year.
I do think it is a bit early for Roseau fans to start thinking about a 3peat. Just defending the title will be challenge enough. There will be a number of very good teams from the metro next year. 07 was the year of the northern teams, next year may well be the year of the metro teams.
Will Roseau be playing in the Swann cup next Christmas? When is that schedule decided?

No Roseau and it looks like Edina is in the 2nd tier (they are calling it Red this time around) tourney again this year. Why would they move Minnetonka up to the big boys and leave Edina behind after their impressive season? Is it the tournament organizers or the individual coaches that make these decisions?
I would love to see Roseau come down for this one each year, but I know that the cost has to be taken into account for these things.

Puckguy19- No doubt they beat us up pretty bad but then again our team will be loaded next season and payback will be fun.Puckguy19 wrote:Them there Spuds don't rebuild . . . they RELOAD! The group of kids that will be juniors and seniors have beaten Roseau in PeeWees and Bantams; not often, but they have. Moorhead will have to find a goalie that will be more consistent if they want to go anywhere.Their defense should be solid and they should have enough scoring punch to win a lot of games, but the main concern will be in the nets.
What've you been smoking ? If you had a 6-24 record you wouldn't get to the state tournament (at least not in Minnesota) !spudsdominate wrote:Lets just put it this way, Moorhead will be luck to make it to section title game next year.
