I am all about playing other sports in high school. But what does this baseball season have to do with him staying or not?? I am not ripping the kid, I am just curious.

How good is the LF baseball team? Give the kid some time to play out the future. State tournament is a few weeks old, and people are wondering if he is playing seven months from now. Let him get through his junior year before everyone is hatin on him.

I'm sure his knee jerk reaction is - see ya - but its a difficult decision.

My guess is the kid just wants to play ball, end the school year, then worry about making a decision.

What baseball has to do with this is the fact Jared likely won't leave to play with Lincoln for the rest of this school year ( though I am sure they would like him added to their roster now rather than later). But I believe he, like many in his position, will make up his mind about next year after this (06-07) school year is completed.

You guys are fooling yourselves. He already knows what he is going to do. I am sure he knows, maybe just has not made it public yet. I would be willing to bet he will leave. It would be nice to see him stay, but that means it would be nice for us if he were to stay. The best thing for him will be to leave... In my opinion anyway.

You're right scout, he knows and will let the cat out of the bag when he's ready. Like I said, let him finish his junior year before everyone starts hatin on him. That would be a long couple months of most calling him a traitor for leaving if he said he was.

Some on this board think that just because LF didn't have a good showing this year at state that equates into Jared being overrated and not that good. Well thats just bull, the kid can play and will show it at the next level.

I like your use of the word hatin RL

I do agree with both RL and Scout, it wouldn't surprise me if he had his mind made up all season, soon enough we will know what he has had in mind all this time. Until then, let the kid play some baseball and enjoy the rest of his junior year.

I am not and would not hate on this kid. He is a stud and in my opinion one of the best players in the State. I have said nothing but good things about him. All I was saying is that I am sure he already has his mind made up. I also said I have nothing against playing other sports. All I am saying is that he already knows what he is doing next year!!!!!

If you thought I was commenting to you specifically, I apologize for that, that was not my intention nor do I think you would be "hatin" on him for moving on with his hockey or for playing another sport.

There are some out there and on this board that will say that he would be abandoning his teammates, school, community etc. if he decides to go the juniors route for next year. Similiar to what some say about transfer students who are trying to do what is best for them and their futures.

I think the kid is a great player reguardless of his teams schedule, conference, section assignment and state tournament appearance performances. Good luck to him with his future plans.

One thing you guys are missing is the wishy-washyness ( I think I just made up a word) of kids and making decisions. He also might be waiting to see who stays on Lincoln and who leaves to play college or pros and see what his playing time is going to be.

I believe that their baseball team went relatively far in the play offs last year. Both Hanowskis played varsity too. Im almost positive their dad is the head coach. Anyone know for sure?

Both Beau and Ben were all conference baseball players last year. They have a chance to be a good team this year, returning most players from last year's team. John H. is indeed the coach.

School is either out or will be this week and baseball for Little Falls is now over. Any insider info on which way Festler is leaning?

Most USHL clubs require that players must participate (if healthy) in the tryout camp in order to make the final roster. Lincoln's tryout camp is June 7-10 at Dakotah Sports and Fitness in Prior Lake. If he's not there, he'll be back at Little Falls. If he is there, he could still go either way.

I wish all kids had the team & teammates virtues you suggest. Some are in it only for themselves. Often it is parent driven.

Seems like this kid is a talented player and gets it from a team aspect. Good role model for all players.

Well, Festler was at camp and did make the All-Star team (essentially the first cut). Rosters must be cut down to 25 by July 1st, so I imagine Jared will have made his choice officially known by then.

Only half the USHL camps are completed, but here are some other current high schoolers who who have so far made USHL Tryout Camp All-Star Teams...

Brady Hjelle - International Falls
Taylor Johnson - White Bear Lake
Keegan Flaherty - Duluth East
Jake Youso - International Falls
Joe Arbour - Duluth East
Aaron Crandall - STA
Jake Johnson - Duluth Denfield
Seth Helgeson - Faribault
Matt Leer - Edina
Anthony Raiola - Minnetonka
Hakan Yumusaklar - Lakeville South
Bryce Ravendalen - Warroad
Nick Oliver - Roseau
Anthony DeCenzo - Hibbing
Jared Festler - Little Falls
Jake Hansen - White Bear Lake

From the Lincoln Journal Star today:

"Among other possible newcomers that impressed were defenseman Jake Newton and Tyler Kiefer, and forward Jared Festler.

Festler broke the Minnesota high school all-time scoring record last season with 71 goals and 54 assists. He appears to be leaning toward joining the Stars, but may wait to commit until after Lincoln hires a new head coach."

A list of very good kids.

What I am wondering is this: If Festler is already going to St. Cloud, why would he have to leave and play juniors? He certainly can still make himself better playing w/ his team and then make it to St. Cloud at some point. What is the rush? It is not like he is NHL material.

Another interesting one is DeCenzo....does he leave dad and go play juniors? Hibbing will still be good, not great, but good, and they will hav a chance to get to state if he stays.

there is no comparison between the level Festler is at now and USHL hockey. He would make himself a lot better in the USHL. It'd be a great prep. for St. Cloud.

forwhomthebelltolls is correct. It's rare enough when a player goes straight from high school to the WCHA. To do it from Little Falls would be unheard of. The only chance would be if Festler was 6'2" and lightning fast (White, McDonagh, Marvin, Lee). He's neither. The USHL will be a necessary and very helpful step for Jared, whether it's this season or next.

If he does go this year, it's nice to see that he's getting comfortable where he belongs... on top of the scoresheet! His All-Star team won 3-1, with Jared scoring one of the goals for Team Black.
