How good will Moorhead be in 08?

Actually. if you had a 6-24 record, that means you went two and out at the state tournament.

Thats if you are in sections 4a, 5a, 2aa, 3aa, 6aa and didn't have to play a play in game in sections. your team would have finished the regular season with a 1-24 record

Moorhead plays a 24 game regular season schedule and you are guranteed to get into sections. So if they lost all their reg. season games they would be 0-24, three wins would get them into state in section 8AA and three wins in state would make you the STATE CHAMPIONS and by my math that makes the team 6-24 with a state title.

As for Ankles Pierre:
I'm pretty sure that the Spuds Dominated before Morinville got here. I'm pretty sure that the Cullen's with their dad coaching the team not Morinville got to state a bunch of times and to the title game a lot to, but of course never one the big game. So next time you try to say that Morinville was the man that raised Moorhead to greatness you better check your facts pony!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the best thing for Moorhead would be a whole new coaching staff. One that can win the big games, like Roseau's can. you never see them choke in the big game do you. Yeah that's what i thought. So just go back and sit on your thumb some more pony.

Actually spudsdominate there are 9 teams in 8AA so if you went 0 for 24 on the season you would most likely have to play the play in game to get into sections and you have to win that one to advance or you are done. So, you need to check your math........

I don't think anyone should put a fork in the Spuds yet. They have lost some very tough games the last few years, but they are no means down and out.

With the feeder program as competitive as it is and the numbers coming through, they may have an even hungrier group of players that will play quite well as the "underdogs".

As one of the boards proclaimators would say"Its up for Grabs!"

Absolutely Hipcheck. I agree whole heartedly. The Bantam A team this year was completely written off early in the season. They are a very young team with about half of the team being first years. They worked hard throughout the season and earned a 3rd place finish in the VFW state tourney. They have come along way this year and the second years who will be moving on will continue to get better.

Moorhead will be very competitive for years to come.

Always the coaches fault...has to be....fire them all if they don't go undefeated and win the state tourney year after year after year. Sad...almost sounds like White Bear Lake. One of the toughest and most competitive programs in the state, but if you can't win state or "the big game" gotta fire the coach.

There are 9 teams in each section in AA. A 5th co-op team was added to section 8 that being Aitkin, Crosby Ironton, Pequot Lakes, Northland, and Pine River/Backus. Not sure what impact they will have in the section I would imagine it may be difficult for them to compete with Brainerd, Roseau, Tech, and Moorhead.

Is it the coaching that is screwing Moorhead? I find that sort of funny to change the whole coaching staff. Its high school hockey. Who else are you going to get to coach? Is there a Herb Brooks out there for HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY? ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

I agree with spudsdominate - how many state bantam titles does Moorhead have? How many varsity titles do they have? You need better results than that.

Some of the Moorhead players showed what they had learned from their coach after the Section 8 title game. Morinville didn't stick around to see what his players were doing. Has he been found yet or is he still beating himself?

Actually, I think he does mean Brainerd. Bemidji has opted to play at 8A and Brainerd has moved to 8AA in their place. You could also certainly leave Buffalo on the list.

hockeyfan32, i hate to be the one to tell you this but,,,,,, there are 9 teams in 8AA. Go lookem up........

Are you kidding! Moorhead lost their best players to graduation and have nothing moving up from Bantams. Roseau will dominate the taters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2 years Roseau's talented group of sophomores (Landman, Ness, Oliver, Mike Lee) will be seniors and probably almost unbeatable unless some of them go on to juniors before then. So I don't see how the Spuds will be contending by then either.

I believe CitiesSpudsGuy meant that the Bantam team would be pretty good in two years.

The State Championship was played on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the"little ralph" in TRF.

Still not sure if they learned their lesson.

Did see alot of Alumni though. Guys that played on some great teams for Moorhead.

Two losses and 1 tie during a 4 month hockey season is a commendable season. Throw in the stregth of schedule and it looks damn nice (check out PS2 ratings).

I saw pleanty of "Moorhead" fans at the tourney but they were "hockey" fans. You say fair weather but why would a non-hockey fan go to the state hockey tourney. Most of the folks who follow them during the year are MOORHEAD fans but not necessarily hockey fans. Were you expecting 1500 spud fans to show up an watch the Rams kick everyone's rear. I didn't get the jist of your post.

I talked to a handful of section 8 players that called the Rams win over the Spuds a HUGE upset. Pretty nice words from kids that actually PLAYED against both teams.

The bottom line is that the RAMS represented section 8AA in an exceptional fasion. Watching them shake with excitement with about 20 seconds left in their championship game was awesome. Mean while somewhere in Moorhead or in the X bathrooms there was a Moorhead kid with his head in a toilet stool throwing up. What a monumental dissapointment it must have been for these kids. My heart went out to every 2006-2007 varsity player. The sting will take some time to go away.

2 season ago I think a group of Spuds thought they had it wrapped up against AHA and it wasn't meant to be then either. Look around the nation and you will see that many of them have done pretty well since. People also talked about HOW LONG it would be before they made it back (many graduating players just like this year). The answer was ALMOST 2 years. I am hopeful that it will only take that long again.

Like I said ... they abandoned tradition ... BIG TIME!

1st good team from Moorhead to do it since 1991-92 season (and not make it to state).

Like I said ... I didn't see any Moorhead Letter jackets at the state tournament. Didn't see any hats or sweaters. I suspect most fans who went lost their pride out of embarrasment. I would have wore the garb with pride if I were a true fan.

That's the "gist" of it.

Now ... does anyone out there know which "tradition" was abandoned? Something they had that no other team in the state had for as long?

Moorhead will lose about 6 games next year and lose in the section semis. Look for someone like Buffalo/Brainard/Tech to beat them in the playoffs and get some revenge for some of the scores they've put up on them in recent years.
