Goaltending does not exist early in this one.

I believe St. Cloud is 0-6 on the PP.

St. Cloud State finishes 0-9 on the PP. Motzko said in an interview that his team needs to hit at a 1/3 clip on the PP in the playoffs to win...if they would have, they would have sent it to OT.

I believe I am sitting 1-2.

SCSU needs to figure out PP next year and it'd fairly simply-shoot the puch. The constant looking for back door play obviously isn't working. When the defenders starts coming out high to press the defense the either can't hold the zone or get pucks broken up. Between NCAA, Frozen 5 and UMD series the PP looked like a JV from HS

After watching that game yesterday, I definitely agree with that assessment. It's the same problem the Gophers have been having on the PP. Looking for backdoors and the "pretty goal". Nodl, Lasch, and sometimes even Gordon often get a little fancy with the puck rather than crashing the net and getting dirty goals. Motzko's definitely got the program going in the right direction, but it might be a step back next year as they lose some key players.casualfan wrote:SCSU needs to figure out PP next year and it'd fairly simply-shoot the puch. SCSU's biggest problem on the power play is they don't have very good defenseman running it. Yesterday was a prime example. Yesterday, their defensemen were all slow at making decisions with the puck on the power play and it seemed to bog down everything they tried to do. Even at the end when they were desperate and pulled the goalie for the 6 on 4, they were way too passive and slow in making decisions. It was brutal to watch.
The reason why Lucia has historically had good power play units on his teams (before he came to MN and since he arrived at MN) is in large part because of the skill he lands on defense. When you have highly skilled defensemen that make decisive and smart decisions with the puck, it makes for a potent power play.
