All you did UWhockey88 is name the 5 largest associations in the state.

You would really have to try not to put good teams on ice with those numbers. How could you even screw that up with 150 kids trying out at every level.

They may all be good associations but look at what Roseau does with their numbers and I think its a no brainer.

Grand Rapids also comes to mind as one who puts out the youth teams year after year.

Let me reiterate (for the 3rd time) what the questions is.

"year after year what associations produces the best teams at all levels."

It is not, "based on community size and number of kids trying out for hockey, what associations can compete with each other at all levels."

Yes, the top 5 largest (question on Centennial's size?) associations were mentioned by a few more than just ol' UW because those associations produce year after year quality teams at all levels. (period)

Also, if you read my last entry correctly you would have taken notice of the ...after White Bear. (which means to continue)

UWhockey is right, the 5 teams that he said are the ones that "year after year, produce the best hockey teams."

Thank you Woody22 for understanding the fact that I was not trying to "eliminate" the northern associations. However, it is a fact that the numbers do play a huge roll in the outcome of a teams success. Maybe the question should of been worded (or qualified) differently so to give credit to the smaller associations that do have quality teams. It's pretty much a no-brainer to give the 5 largest associations the vote! (?)

FYI-I am a huge northern hockey fan-just survivin' in the cities till the day Ol' UW moves back to Gods country!

I have been impressed with Blaine in the past. Lakeville, Duluth East, Tonka, Burnsville, Stillwater-for sure, Jefferson-just to name a few.

This thread is starting to border on "My dad can kick your dad's ass" I don't think the best association can be objectively quantified. :P

the reason roseau is so good with very few kids is that they learn to skate by figure skating at a very young level. the are extremely good skaters even in mites. they learn to skate before they learn other hockey skills
Are you serious?
im dead serious, and its not only figure skating, they also dont use sticks for the first years of hockey, they just skate

[quote]Roseau qualified for state at all levels boys and girls, A & B. Also has a squirt team that was 2nd in the Fargo Squirt International.

Try to tell Roseau it's about the numbers

Association

Post by D6 oldtimer »

Good thread... This one's a tough call, but for all levels including high school I'm going to have to go with Edina. They are consistently in the top 20 teams in the state at every level. They have a great new group coming up in the sophomore class and should stay a power house for years to come.

At the same time, I have to give credit to Centennial. For some reason, I always seem to see them in the state championship for the youth levels. Their varsity team hasn't been to state for a couple years now but I think that will change with successful youth teams, and big names like Lovick, arguably the best bantam in the state this year, reaching the high school level.

Not taking anything away from the Hornets but of course their teams are good; any association with 150 kids at each level should be good. I also agree Lovick is the best Bantam I've seen in a long time.

alright enough is enough if you have over 170 kids to pick from for an A team that doesnt mean you have the best youth association i think roseau does a great job for the amount of kids they get to pick from so everyone saying these d6 team have the best youth associations i think NOT

in my opinion all the D6 teams do is pick the best kids and have them play and and even develope them

Top three really close
When was the last time Wayzata won a Bantam A State Tournament? Take Wayzata out and put Roseau in. That makes more sense :D

As usual Neutron's pretty much right on the money. Could easily add Wayzata and Moorhead into that group. #1 has to be Roseau. Why? Most of these programs are "Johnny come lately's". Roseau has been producing top youth teams for over 60 years.

I would venture to guess when people arrive at a youth tournament and look at the Bracket Board and see either Roseau or Edina in their side of the brackets the first thought is "Oh Crap!! Not THEM!! #-o

If you quantify the "Top Association" as consistency of excellence year in and year out, quality of the numbers trying out and bang for your buck this really is a no brainer...Roseau.

IMHO, if we were saying all time, SSP, Johnson and Jefferson would be on the list. I wouldn't go back more than ten years.

Just go to http://www.minnesotahockey.org/handbook ... ISTORY.pdf

I stand by my picks. Your right about the bracket boards though.

What the heck are you trying to say? and WASBE, Just take a look at all the programs that people are mentioning as "The Best" and you can see 1 common denominator.....................SIZE! you also see the exception to the rule that is Roseau and we have beaten both of these dead horses to death. If my kids in my town could go skate whenever and as long as they wanted they would be great also. Roseau has the old pond hockey that used to be around the cities.
