Anybody subscribe to MLB.tv - spefically the Premium with "Mosaic"? I've got Gameday Audio which is nice, and I've had MLB Extra Innings in the past, but this Mosaic thing on MLB.tv looks pretty cool, and since it's $40 cheaper than Extra Innings, I was thinking of giving it a shot. I figured I'd check for opinions before I jump in with both feet though.

I have subscribed for the past two years. I think this will be the first year I don't subscribe. When I lived in Anchorage it was nice to watch the Twins. Upon moving back to Minnesota I no longer needed that aspect of it. This year you can choose between the premium and basic. The streaming speed and quality is better with the more expensive package but unnecessary. Two years ago when they first started it the picture quality was pretty good. So if you are interested I would go with the cheaper package. The mosaic thing sucked last year. It was free, but it was extremely small. Considering they charge you $30 more for the mosaic I would choose the basic package. Who knows I might still decide to purchase it. ESPN has really cut back on their coverage of late games, so I am always looking to get my baseball fix late at night.
Thanks for the info. One of the concerns I had with Mosaic was the size of the screens as well. I think it would be fine on on a tv (it's a similar setup for NFL Sunday Ticket, which looks good on the 44" tv), but on a 19" monitor, I wondered how well it would come across.Wild4hockey wrote:I have subscribed for the past two years. I did actually go ahead and sign up for a month of the MLB.tv, but the Mosaic download isn't available until 4/2/2007. Also, they're hyping a 700k speed, but it looks like the spring training games are still 350k. For spring training, I'm ok with it - I mean who really cares, but I'd really like to see the higher speeds on 4/2.
The thing is great for killing time at work. It's well worth the $20 to piss off my co-workers!

I'm not sure anybody was ever really contemplating this, but if you were, MLB has extended their free trial period of MLB.tv through the end of the month. Might be worth checking out.
I've been using the "Premium" service with the Mosaic feature just about every night since it launched last Monday, and it's a good idea... just not executed all that well. If you read through the comments on the support blog they've started, Mosaic has been an absolute nightmare for some people, although I haven't had any major problems with it.
What's nice about it for those of us that play fantasy ball, you can set a "Player Alert" roster of 30 players, and each time one of them comes to the plate or gets themselves into scoring position, Mosaic will alert you so that you can switch the game you're currently watching to the game with that player... pretty slick.
Anyway, it's a work in progress for them, but it has the potential to be a nice product. For free, you might want to check it out for a few weeks.

I was contemplating upgrading to the premium, but other than the audio being included for free the picture quality isn't any better on their 700k than their 400k. The mosaic has been horrible for me so far. When the picture does show up it tends to buffer constantly. My IP speed is more than capable to handle it so I don't know what the problem is.
