I also thought the players from GR were a classy group of guys. They played a good game and fought hard, but in the end, lost to a solid Roseau team. I was impressed with the amount of respect the GR and Roseau players showed each other during the handshake line and the awards ceremony. It was an example for all of us to follow.
The GR band was wonderful and we also enjoyed listening to their cheers and chants of the GR fans.
Although the final score wasn't what you wanted, you have nothing to hang your head about. Showing dignity and being respectful is just as important as winning championships...you've done that GR!

Exactly. Reider Jensen had one little mishap. I love his attitude though. The way it looked like he wanted to fight every Edina player that got close to the net when the played them. I've known a lot of guys who I have played with and against throughout the years from Rapids and they're good folks but it would be nice to SEE AT LEAST ONE OF YOU come forward and acknowledge what Jensen did after Rapids beat Burnsville was wrong. Sorry the kid shouldn't have done that and just because he is a high school kid doesn't excuse this type of bad sportsmanship.Exactly. Reider Jensen had one little mishap. I love his attitude though. That's really the best you could come up with? Quit reaching, the boys from GR are a class act, as are their coaches. JENSEN ACTED LIKE A COMPLETE IDIOT! right after getting lit up for 3 late third period goals, Jensen skakes by a dejected group of kids from Burnsville and pumps his fist and then points at them. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this and think it ranks as one of the all-time most classless things I've seen . Did no one see this? Or is this ok because he is from Rapids? They are high school kids. Think about the relief he was feeling. Come on. And watch the game again. Watch how Burnsville has 5 guys celebrating a goal in Mr. Jensen's crease.

A player from Rapids was interviewed on tv after the 1990 championship game and I remember him saying good things about Roseau and keeping a one class tournament. He typified the classy attitude of the Grand Rapids players and fans. Again this year the players showed the same class after the state championship game. I happened to be in TRF the day of the section 8AA final. Although I hadn't seen Roseau or Rapids play in over 15 years I couldn't help but think, as I watched the Roseau kids congratulate the Moorhead kids as they got their second place medals, that some of the Moorhead kids should take a lesson from Grand Rapids. I am not from Rapids and did not see the Burnsville game. But what is done in the heat of an emotional moment does not change long time tradition.

I'm not saying it does nor am I condemning Grand Rapids for the actions of one kid. However, sitting here reading all of the Rapids fans patting each other on the back acting as if they have a monopoly on good sportsmanship and condemning the actions of the Moorhead kids seems a bit disingenuous after what Jensen did.wishock wrote:Rapids has a long standing tradition. It was a tough loss for Moorhead and their reaction was understandable, but I wish they had done a better job of pulling themselves together after the loss (coach and team leaders?) I can't excuse Jensen. My point was that it was a senseless spontaneous reaction. As an outsider looking on, I know Rapids doesn't have a monopoly on good sportsmanship, they just seem to set the bar.Hockeyguy_27 wrote:
