Guyer and Westlake got 1st period goals. Raiders were up 2-0 after 1. It was 2-2 after two, then 3-2 late into the third. Falls added an empty netter to win it 4-2.

I think we know they aren't very good. But what is your point in making that comment?

They played bemidji last thursday and got beat.. cant quite remember the score.. maybe it was 6 to 2? but after that game bemidji fans padlocked the doors on the trailer after all of the bags were in it so they couldnt get them out.. and they tied eveleth 3 to 3

RIP - Greenway

Post by greenway1969 »

The Falls did a mercy killing in ending Greenway's season. At the start of the season I felt Greenway had 7 winnable games. They tied one of those (Eveleth) and lost one (Wadena). They did spring an upset when they beat Virginia.

Even though Greenway's won-lost record was about what I expected, I was a little disappointed in their season. They failed to be competitive against the good teams. The few times I was able to see them I was disappointed in their lack of intensity and discipline. After Underwoold got hurt, their season went South in a hurry. Even with his return, they continued their sub-par play. They did take a step in the right direction, because of their ability to beat the teams they should have beaten. Let's hope they can take the next step and quit losing games 9-0.

Work hard in the off-season and you have a chance of closing the gap on the top teams. You have decent talent that could carry you to the next level of play. Good luck next year.

In my opinion Greenway will never ever be any significant hockey power again. As a product of the system, I can tell you that the coaching still follows that the top line always has the best players, the second line has the second best players, and the 3rd and 4th lines are succeedingly "less good". This has always been a problem since Gernander left the coaching duties, and over time progressively has gotten worse, no team balance. When the parent-coaches of this abysmal finally understand this, maybe they will come back to their glory days.

I agree with you. Last year when they had a decent bantam team the top players got way too much of the ice time. There is a reason they did not have a bantam team this year. The low numbers are a result of kids not feeling that they get enough playing time, with a special chosen few getting almost all of it. I know kids and parents like to complain, but I have no direct or indirect connection with the team and tend to agree that as players get less and less playing time as they move through the program, they tend to get less interested and quit.

A big part of the Greenway community, Jay Gould, passed away yesterday. Tough time for the community.

I've heard rumors that Greenway's starting goalie from last year, A.J. Underwood, was moving from Greenway to Hermantown. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Yes he is, but it isn't a school transfer. His family is moving to better their situation.

For your information, I knew it was going to as well, but until it's official, you have no right to attack the kid.

Likely another tough season for the mean green. It sure would be nice to see them compete, though.
