It's at Fogerty in Blaine, June 12-15th. The players do not even know what teams they are on yet, so no rosters are available.

I don't get it. Why do events like this say that a player must try out to make Junior Fest? Meghan Parker (Sibley) has a great try-out and doesn't make Junior Fest and another player (who shall remain nameless) does not participate in the try-out scrimmage and is named to Junior Fest?

The harsh reality in Minnesota Girls Hockey seems to be...It's politics and lobbying efforts that get your girl to the next step in whatever program run by local yokels; sometimes at the expense of blinding talent.

You have to remember that womens hockey is really in it's infancy compared to the mens game and alot of the programs out there are a small group of peoples best effort. As the sport grows and more people are brought into the loop the programs will grow too. Herb Brooks always said "there is no progress without change" so we have to keep throwing idea's out there hoping something will make a difference. There is alot of talent missed but be thankful that we live in Minnesota where we have different opportunitties for a girls talent to discovered.

2008 MS Goalie - One maybe not on many radar screens yet is Lea Jondal the new goalie from Somerset, WI who transeferred into Cretin she is my early season pick but there are many great ones, the two standouts at Eagan, Thunder, Klatt at Woodbury....

Thunder as in Paige Thunder? If that's the case, she has graduated.

I'll reiterate some of my earlier opinions...Smith, Feste, Ambroz, Erickson & Erickson are just a few of a larger group of candidates that will prove very worthy IMO. Another deep class in my view.

If you go to the home page www.mghca.com then click news and events. There is a schedule there too. No results though. I was there yesterday and saw some great hockey. It's at Fogerty arena.

I get so bored reading" Erickson, Erickson, Ambroz and Feste" that I thought that I would suggest a DI sleeper from every team in the festival. These are personal opinions and in no way suggest that the 4 above mentioned names aren't the superstars everyone says they are, and likewise I am not saying these girls are D I scholarship athletes. They just seem to be playing well this week.

My DI sleepers by team are Team Red: Brittany Carlson and Torri Shelafoe. Cretin D-Hall is loaded and Forest Lake also looks like they have some talent. Team Black: Kristen Latta and Marlee Wheelhouse. Great energy and effort these two. Team Blue: Allison Casey. Team is undefeated and I think she has the lowest GAA for the first 3 games. Team White:Everyone knows about Annie Schleper and Bacon. Team Green: Mikaela Mahoney, very aggressive. Katelyn Dold, I think she has 2 or 3 goals already. Team Purple: Casey McMullen plays hard every shift. Team Grey: Taylor Jenkins and Ally Foley-Two Southern Sleepers. Look like Roseville players the way they see the ice and create offense. Team Yellow: Nikka Kaasa, looking really good. And by the way I think a better name for this team would be Team Gold.

Any updates on how the games are going and/or who's having strong tournament play now?

Thanks.

The Junior festival was very enjoyable to watch. Minnesota is not lacking for talent. Being I don't live in the metro area I was looking forward to seeing some of the girls often mentioned. The vast majority of the girls lived up to the reputations they have earned. A SMALL number of girls I saw appeared to have gotten frustrated when they were unable to dominate as they probably do during the high school season and a few looked as though they were not used to "team play". Overall the play seem very high caliber and all the girls put on a tremendous show. Thanks Girls!

I saw Grey win the championship:3-1. Some great hockey. Saw some suprises, Taylor Jenkins with a hat trick against Team Green, I thought team green would be a favorite. Monique Weber scored 2 in the Championship for the grey. Is there anywhere, where stats or results are posted? Very balanced teams. Great event to watch.

I heard Foley scored 2 goals against purple. I am a bit surprised that the Southern Minnesota girls scored several goals, being they play such a weak Strength of Schedule. I imagine the caliber of play at Junior fest, was much higher than city AA girls highschool hockey. Kudos to you gals.
