Mankato summer league

Post by goaler »

Scores, Sunday, June 24
Windom 6, Marshall 4 (corect me if I'm wrong)
Mankato West (2) 9, Marshall 0
New Ulm 3, St. Peter 1
Waseca 3, Mankato East 3

Early returns,

West is good. Great offense, who knows about goaltending. Looks soft after loss of two seniors.

Waseca. Way, Way improved. (1-1-1 after three) Good freshmen and getting good goaltending.

Windom. Big, strong. Watch out for these boys if they are on your schedule.

New Ulm. What great defensemen. Need more goals, goaltending.

Mankato East. Needs everything, but can still hit you hard.

St. Peter. Works hard, needs scoring. Senior goalie good.

Marshall. Lost 12 seniors. Rebuilding year ahead.

Goaler, good observation
This league does nothing for West as the league overall is pretty weak. West ended up splitting into two equal teams to fill a spot open when AL, Lourdes and Austin dropped out to play in Kasson. In my opinion, West should have got into the Kasson league and sent one team over there.
By the way, West's goaltending will be fine

Mankato West looks good

Yeah it looks like both West teams are going to cruise through the league.

They crushed St. Peter and Marshall in the two games I've seen. They would have had to work a little harder against St. Peter if Preisler had played. St. Peter had some good chances but they kept missing the net with their shots.

Maybe New Ulm, Waseca or Windom can give them some competition. Waseca is very, very, very young but they are coming on. Windom is tough, but they play pretty loose, and West will take advantage of that. New Ulm will smother you with their excellent defensemen (How did New Ulm end up with so many good defenders?), but they have trouble getting goals.

West's offense looks very, very dangerous. Will they contend for the Big 9 title? Maybe, but Albert Lea and Century are still tough.

Hopefully they can get some competition. New Ulm should be able to as they do have some very good D-men as you said. West is taking one team to a tourney at the end of July up in Blaine. Not sure what teams are all involved though. Maybe someone on this board can help out what teams are involved. I believe it is July 27-29

Anyone can pick these teams apart. But to be talking about how they are doing in summer league and how they will do next winter is crazy. The only team I really know about is NU and they don't have most of the returning players even playing summer league. They play baseball in the summer. NU's summer league is mostly first year high school players with on a given night they have a few return players. I would think that this is the case with most teams? Right? NU is 3-0 with it's young squad.

Bomb, you are right. You cannot tell what will happen from these summer games. I know alot of the West kids are playing other summer sports as well plus the fact that they are split equally will never give you a good reading on what a team will be like in the Winter. The only thing you can see is individually who has improved or digressed from the previous year
