But in response to your last post, check out the CDH BBall roster and you will find some pretty good football players on it.

CNT, the most seriuos injuries we hav ehad in our family occurred on the ice. But you cant let that controll what you do. The only way to avoid injury is to stay locked in the closet.

You can rip up an ankle or knee pretty good playing baseball too.

We agree and I have said that if it truly is a choice, then fine. But I think most of the time kids are pressured into deciding on one spot or another and I dont think thats choice.

So, what do you think of my suggestion for the name of the award?
Well PB, you know my stand on choice, from my post's on other topics, and my belief in the freedom to choose is what freedom means, I pass that on to my kids by letting them do just that, if they do ask for direction, one of the things I ask them...will you regret this choice later? then let them decide, no leading them, actually being the one to say are you sure you don't want to give it a chance...etc. To make them really think.

As far as the award.... I live west of the St. Croix so anything with Packer in it kind of diagrees with me
But it's better then HSwatcher award ](*,) oh now lets be serious

Of course I suppose it could be the CNT award as the name kind of goes with the argument Huh!!

Can anyone else play?

Post by Knowlzee »

What if the entire hockey team played 3 sports? There would be 20 kids playing for 60 potential varsity players. Thats 40 kids that could have had the opportunity to be on a varsity team, that otherwise wouldn't. What is wrong with more kids particpating?

We already start off with 100's of minimites, that become about 6 senior players. Now, Packerboy wants those gifted 6 to play all 3 sports, too.

Can anyone else play? :)

Knowlzee, anybody who is one of the best can play.

Are you now getting on the lets manipulate things so kids can get "the opportunity " bandwagon? Is that what I am hearing?

Dont even attempt to justify kids being "forced to ''chose" "(is that an aximoron if ever there was one) by saying it gives more kids a chance to play.

All right , we will call it the CNT packerboy Award. Until such time as a sponsor comes up with about 10 million and then we will name it after them.

But seriuosly, what a good way to promote all high school sports. Pick the winners right after the baseball tournament; have an awards ceremony thats televised on FSN with Anthony Laplanta the MC; show film clips of all the nominees.

It would promote athleticism and high school sports in general. I think we could use more of that.

Image Ok do they have to be like seniors that played all three or four years of three sports? does it have to be all varsity?
You know where this will lead there will have to be the best of the best so someone can be>>>Image

Ahh more trophy's :D

Geez, I come up with the concept and now you press me for detail.

Well alright then , here it is:

Its an annual award and can be won by anyone who particpates in at least 3 sports. Its voted on by coaches, writers and , of course, registered minnhock posters.

The criteria is overall performance just like a triathalon for the season.

Simple. If we can pick a Mr/Ms Hockey and metro player of the year etc. , we can do this.

Hearing check?

Post by Knowlzee »

Not sure what you are hearing, but you know me well enough (although we've never met) that I am not in favor of "forcing", or "manipulating", anything,....quite the opposite, in fact,......let the free market work,.....if you are good enough, and you want to tryout,.....you make the team.

Just making the point, based on observation, that it already seems (and probably always has been) that each school has a core of kids, that are already involved in a lot of activities. Thinking of ALL kids in general, I just don't see it as a problem, if kids choose to focus on a single(or a few) activity(s). More opportunity for others potential participates. What's wrong with that? With a little more focus, and a few more participants, maybe the quality of ALL activities will be raised.

There will always be the Dave Winfield/Joe Mauer atheletes that have the ability to play many sports, and play them all well,....and if they want to, they should. But just as coaches/parents/teams shouldn't "pressure" athletes to "choose" one,......schools/programs have no business promoting "multiple sport athletes", either. And for what, so the AD can hang another banner in the arena?

Why can't coaches/programs/schools (adults) stay out of it,....let the kids weigh their options,...and choose?

Well since they already have the Winfield Award* for the best athlete in St. Paul, wouldn't it make sense just to expand that one?

*2007 Winner was Broderick Binns, who excelled in football, basketball and track. Oh yeah, he went to Cretin. Go figure. Like they needed anymore recruiting propoganda.

I'd feel bad taking the prefix on this since it was another one of your ideas,
But we could have a 1st place Packerboy award, 2nd place Neutron14 runnerup award, and a 3rd place CNT award would be fitting as obviosly he/she "Never Tried" hard enough, or skipped the fall sport to prevent injury for the winter one [-X

And Knowlzee because there has to be a consolation champ with more trophy's of course!! you'll get that honor.Image

You tell me.

Post by Knowlzee »

According to several posts on this thread by Packerboy,...."kids are pressured into choosing by coaches",....."coaches tell kids that their spot will be in jeopardy if they play another sport",....."most of the time kids are pressured into deciding on one sport". Now, you want programs to "promote" 3 sport athletes.

You tell me, is that what's going on,.....or are the kids choosing without pressure? As I recall, our kids chose, without pressure. Were you exagerating just to promote your award? :)

P.S. CNT is a she?

Da_n you Knowlzee :x
If you have to ask that...read my post in the " I Love You" thread it should pretty much clear up any question

That's it!!!
I am going home to talk my kid into playing three sports so he has a shot at this prestigious award, I will tell him it is bigger then just him, and very important to me that he is in the running, I don't care if you get hurt or not, this award will mean way more in 20 yrs then any dumb hockey future you are busting your hump over so knock it off and diversify.

Many a minnhock poster outing has been suggested. The only one that has come off is the outing at the Liffey on Thursday in between the first 2 sessions of the tournamnet.

I think a good idea for an off season summer outing would be to go see the Simpsons movie. It would be fun but also educational. Really more like a field trip than an outing.

It is aparent we are all inspired by Homer.

But as he would say "If something is hard to do , its not worth doing".
