What is it about Trebil

Post by Hockeyguy_27 »

that makes him such a great coach? I've talked to a number of his former players from when he was at Jefferson and who later played for him at Holy Angels. None of them say anything other than how great he was as a coach.

Besides win/loss record what makes a coach like Trebil so good?

Just from word of mouth I've heard that he really gets down and works with players to make them better. He really cares for each of his teammates. He does get great players, yes, but he works with them and makes them that much better.

From what I've heard he's basically the ideal coach.

he will stop everyone at any given time during prac. to explain what someone did right or wrong. he won't let you get away with not making the right play. lots of constructive yelling
as a former player he was a great coach

This is what I've heard about him too. Love him or hate him this guy is a winner and has a lot of respect from his former players.

That is so true!! the question is. is it the coach or the player that makes a great team, or is it both???

Just out of curiosity, how many times has Trebil scored more than 20 goals against Shakopee, or anyone else?

Just wondering....

as an added note, this past winter Trebil scored no goals against Shakopee, but AHA did score 17 in 2 games....

my good friend plays for him and he says that when they get 6 or 7 goals they need to get 5 consecutivepasses before they can shoot

We've had these threads before guys. We all know that Trebil is great, what VARSITY hockey is for, and what Stars players have to do after they've scored a lot before they can shoot. We all know it. We also know that many from outside Holy Angels have asked you guys to stop saying things like this. The infallible shining balls of gas were taken to OT this year by a conference opponent. Just stop putting them down. They are a great program with a great coach, end of story.

I'm wasn't disputing his greatness  I'm just curious why this guy has had success everywhere he has gone or for that matter why any coach is consistently successful. Players have a lot to do with it obviously but there are other elements and I'm trying to figure out what those are.

You have answered half of your question: Having quality players is half the battle, but someone needs to assist those players with bringing out their best play. Trebil has done that at Jefferson and at AHA. Both places he had quality players and he and his staff know just how to motivate the kids to play their best. Watch him sometimes, there are very few times that he raises his voice to his players. He points out what they may be doing wrong, or what they need to do to improve their play.
