It's a Bernie McBain money making team. He typically recruits kids to play in Lake Placid. Not sure if he has high school types.

Its a team that plays one tournament in Lake Placid. You have to tryout but I think its pretty much most of the kids that tryout make it. Atleast if you look at the roster thats what it looks like

I too know some kids who have done this, and they had a good time. Most of the time it's made up of kids who aren't quite top-rung players, but are still pretty good. If you want to have a trip out east, go for it. Make it a hockey vacation..

While my kid never did play on the Pride, he did play on similar teams that traveled to locations outside of Minnesota for hockey. We went to places like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Boston, Seattle, Denver. Like Blue & Gold, I also would not really want to know how much was spent on these "experiences" and vacations.

I sometimes wonder if my player would be were he is today if we had not done the $$$$ / checkbook hockey events. Would he have gotten the full ride, been drafted by an NHL team, played in the USHL, etc., etc. Have to believe that yes, all those things would have happened anyway regardless if the money was spent or not.

Yet I truly believe that in some ways, the opportunity to play against the top players in western Canada, eastern Canada, eastern US helps in the maturation process. Got to see alot of talented players, see alot of different cultures, experience alot of places outside of Minnesota. I have to believe because of these experiences, my son was willing to look at colleges all over the country and not just Minnesota schools when that time came.

My advice is to think of these things (the Pride to Lake Placid, the Blades to Toronto, the Force to Manitoba) as a chance to enhance the personal relationship between the parent and the player during the important years of their development. Like Blue & Gold says, make it a vacation, enjoy the times together and see what else, talent wise, is out there.

There is a Minnesota Team (through Minnesota Made Hockey) - you can get tryout information on line on their website. And no, not everyone who tries out makes it.
The tournament is actually put on by Can-Am Hockey. Check out their website also for information on the tournament itself.

We have gone twice. It was a great experience and a great family trip. Nice to see the different competition and to experience all the olympic and hockey history in a town this size.

The money spent was well worth it for both reasons.

I like observer have spent alot of cash on numerous hockey vacations . Some good some not so good, and have went to Lake Placid twice.
It deffinately was a good trip. In My top three. The whole thing was great The people the hockey the venue all cool. If I had another Hockey player I would go back. Maybe my grand children. Here that Bernie you have a lifer. Calgary Stampede , Toronto Prospects and Wonderland where also fun. Prospects was the best hockey or toughest competition by far. Playing in Chicago was also cool. The Chicago parents make us Minnesotans seem tame. As far as the money goes who cares I will by my toys when I retire.

A lot of the '92 group that went were at the Select 102 group and quite a few were at St. Cloud. Of those, several made the final team. The quality of the opposition varied from year to year. The first year, all the competition was on the low side of 1st year Bantam A, while the second year, the teams were a combined '91-'92 birth year and the level of play was better. Minn won as a '92 team and was second as a combined team. The goaltender on the '91-92 team led Blaine to the AA state tournament team last year. All that aside, it wasn't an exposure tourney or a prospects, but it was a great family vacation to a site you never know if you'll get to. The oppurtunity to skate in that Olympic arena and sit in the same locker room as the '80 USA team is an experience my son will cherish forever.

Again, to you as well it sounds like it was well worth it. I just wish my kids were still that age so I could take a cheap vacation such as that! Sounds like alot of fun and educational.

We did it several years back. I don't remember much about the hockey, but it was competitive and the MN teams was decently strong in our age group. We flew into Montreal, stayed there for a couple days and then drove to Lake Placid. It was a great family vacation and it was fun to see Lake Placid and play in the Olympic rink.
