If the Rams some how become choke artists, then I guess the Spuds have a chance.
To be honest, I'm not sure what kind of team Moorhead will have after losing so much last year. Just a guess, but, there's really no way the Spuds can have a better team than last year? Wasn't last year supposed to be their year? Moorhead won't ever be a push over, but I don't feel very confident about the Spuds chances with the team Roseau is bringing back. I doubt the Rams will take the Spuds lightly like Moorhead did with the Rams last year. Weirder things have happened though, so you can't completely count the Spuds out. IMO, Roseau will have a better team than the state championship team they had last year. If the Rams play well, I don't see too many teams in the whole state that can beat them. #8 in 08' is a definite possiblity. #9 in 09' is very possible as well if everyone sticks around for their senior year. That's a very difficult task, but this is a team that could do it.

I agree with Riverskater. Moorhead will not be dominate, but they are always good. Roseau is the favorite hands down but it is tough to repeat. Brainerd returns its top scorers and defensemen and has a nice crop of incoming sophmores that will fill the roles af the seniors that moved on. I think it will be interesting this year to say the least

Can they? YES Will they? NOspudman wrote:What is your prediction?
For the next two seasons Section 8AA will be dominated by Roseau. Even if the Rams falter, Moorhead has come back to the second tier and would have to compete with Brainerd, Buffalo and Tech.
Last year proved anything can happen, but don't expect it too. Roseau could go back to back (and maybe to back) unless there is a major exodus of players.

At this point you'd think it has to be very frustrating to be a Spuds fan? Disappointment after disappointment. Part of me felt bad for them last year, until I heard their coach cowered in the corner during the section medal ceremony. I heard he wouldn't come out on the ice to shake hands. I wasn't there, so i don't know if that's true or not? Anyone know? If that's the case, I hope they never win the big game. Ick!Puckguy19 wrote:Can they? YES Will they? I'm hoping for an undefeated season for the Rams. Basically just because I want to watch Ness play as much as possible. He's the best player in the state IMO. It helps that the Rams have a lot of other talent on the team as well. No chance for the Spuds this year. What's that? The buzzer is going off....the Spuds are done!

Spuds could win section
This was not a case of the Rams winning by a lucky bounce or a much better team getting upset. If it had been the Rams' team from mid season it maybe could have been considered an upset. But this game matched two excellent teams, probably the two best in the state at the time. Roseau was peaking when it mattered most, helped by the line and goalie changes, and also by the strong tradition of being a tournament contender. Non partial spectators would say that both teams had an excellent game but Roseau had the stifling defense. Having said that, if it is true that Moorhead won't have as strong a team as Roseau this year, an upset is always possible. Being from a small town it is easy for the Rams to feel a lot of pride. Hopefully, the boys won't get cocky but will keep their heads on straight. They peaked early and we will just have to wait and see if they can stay there.

you are exactly right wishock..the Rams played better and better as the season went on. The stifling defense was a nice upgrade. A congratulation is due to the unknown coach of the Rams..Jamie Byfuglien. He came in and worked with the defense a lot and really improved the defense corps. Without him..I say the Rams don't win the state tournament last year.
I don't think this group of kids will get huge heads. I think they'll want it just as bad as the previous year. The Rams didn't sneak past anyone, they were a better team than Moorhead that night. IMO, the Rams had a lot more talent than the Spuds, just younger. Jordy Christian is a good player, just not great. There's a couple great one's on the Rams squad. Moorhead's problem was they thought they were going to see the same team they beat up on in the regular season. The Ram's young team took all year to gel, and they gelled into a pretty good hockey team. If the Spuds get past the Rams this year, it's a major upset, but it can happen.spudman wrote:Idk, i think the Spuds can sneak there way past the Rams some what like the Rams did to the Spuds last year. You just never know. I'm wondering how cocky the Rams will be next year.

Give them two years. I expect Bemidji to be competitive with the 8AA teams when the current group of sophomores are seniors. It will be hard for the decision about about being A/AA to be made without input from that group of kids (went to both MAHA and VFW state as Bantams). Enrollment might make the decision for the powers that be...Neutron 14 wrote:Better chance than Bemidji of winning the AA title!!!WASABEMIDJIFAN wrote:NO!
As long as you are clear as to who they is... This has been beaten to death earlier...WASABEMIDJIFAN wrote:Take a look at my name, WAS A BEMIDJI FAN, until they switched to JV.

We'll keep it a secret thenRon_Burgundy wrote:D16 dad, youth success doesn't translate to high school success. I remember one year where Moorhead won the Bantam A MAHA and VFW states. Don't be too sure that they will be "good". Not saying they won't be. Just pointing out the fact that:
YOUTH Success doesn't = HIGH SCHOOL success

early success
Before players started moving around, it was quite safe to speculate that successful youth teams would be successful at the high school level.
Now, players are more concerned about themselves than the team and will move with out any remorse.
So, can the Spuds win the section? We'll just have to wait and see who has all their players once the season starts!

Are you suggesting that some Roseau players might be leaving? You can rule that out if you think that's the case. They're all staying.hipcheck wrote:Before players started moving around, it was quite safe to speculate that successful youth teams would be successful at the high school level.
