Barnes is an average player
Barnes dominated a team that most considered to be the best in the state at the time he played them - AHA. He looked better than Matson, Brutlag, Polacek, and whoever else you want to name. If that's average to you, lord help your club.
Barnes dominated in AHA game? I dont think you are too dominating when you get outshot 5-1. Good luck to the kid. I am just calling it like I see it. He needs to be a more complete player and do some of the work.

What are you talking about flatontheice?!?! He's the goalie, his team got outshot 5-1 and they won. He is the reason the team won, no other. He was the best player on the ice that night. Needs to do more of the work?! What about the guys who let in those 5x as many shots as they made?

this hurt my head to read and I don't even know where to begin with what is wrong with everything you said there.

let's put it this way: what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read that!

Ther is no way Grand Rapids and Moorhead are top 10 teams - the rest I have no problem with.

Rapids has yet to put their best team on the ice this summer. No sophomores have seen any time yet, and a few regulars haven't been there much as well due to other sports. When November rolls around, I'd be willing to bet that GR will be more than competitive. Roy, Palki and Sparen will have time to gel as the 1st line and Rendle & Kosak will be their top defensive pair. Scoring will be more evenly distributed than last year when they relied heavily on one line. Bishop looks to be ready to handle the pace on D as well. Mix in a few sophomores and you're going to see a pretty tough team. Top ten? Maybe not until January, but by the end of the season, definitely.

HSHockeywatcher will "win" this argument. Wild14 simply doesnt have the staying power. Right CNT and Govs?

IDK for sure the wildfan echoes a few repeated points here, but the 5-1 shot deal is also a good counter point , was this the defense's fault?
Hard to say :?

Ok fine then ingnore my question!! I want to know more about this game.
Obviously if your out shot 5-1 and you win, your goalie played outstanding but not all shots are quality shots..meaning legitimate scoring chances.
Sometimes the score keepers are not that good !

I disagree, Barnes is a solid player that has a scoring knack. He should have a very good year this year.
I agree Barnes can have a scoring knack at times but doesn't play a complete game and needs to improve his skating. From what I hear he is getting some looks but nothing serious yet. I will push it so far as to say he is slightly above average due to his ability to score in streaks. More coaches will know where he is this year, wont be as easy.
I agree with your assessment of his game. He needs to work on his skating and maybe his hustle and competitiveness on the D side of the ice. If he does that, he could play D-1 somewhere (my opinion). If not, he could certainly play D-3.

The young man deserves credit. He stepped up big in their play-off run. Burnsville goalie and Barnes were the MVPs for the Braves in their journey to State.

Yes he did. I will give you that. He stepped up when it was needed.

Certainly have to give him credit. I wonder if he will bring Hendrickson in his suitcase to Wisconsin. JH must have assisted on 90% of his career goals.

Outside of Edina and Roseau (and possibly Hill) most of the perennial powers in the state took big hits from graduation and guys leaving for juniors. I think this is going to be one of the most unpredictable seasons in a long time. I think some teams will surprise some people though, such as Rosemount. Don't rule out CDH with two elite league guys in bohrer and zimmerman, #2 ushl futures pick Mark Alt and a half a dozen returning guys. I expect a lot of parity after the top 3 teams in state.

Been thinking about the top 10:

1.) Roseau (Someone will have to take it away from them, been dubbed as one of greatest teams ever)
2.) Edina (best overall talent but forwards can become frustrated by solid defensemen.)
3.) Hill Murray (should be their year..they have solid returners)
4.) Anoka (Solid top 10 players with a couple of exceptional players)
5.) Duluth East (best coaching in state will have these guys going at right time)
6.) Holy Angels (Some great individuals but can they mix as a team)
7.) Centennial (solid defensively and Pitlick kid could come into his own)
8.) Woodbury (Interesting team, could be this years version of Burnsville)
9.) WBL (Young team will need to develop around a solid goalie)
10.) Eden Prairie (Solid defense see if offense can step up)

Left out:

GR: Watched them in summer tourney not very impressive and not very deep
Burnsville: I like their coaching but dont know if they have enough especially when no one will be surprised anymore.
Cloquet: Big/one scorer/might develop but not good enough to start off in top ten
Minnetonka: Should be fun to watch but new coaching situation puts the team in limbo
BSM: Parents loved Hendrickson and then hated him..talented but selfish team will underachieve again.
Wayzata: Not seeing it unless they have some hotshot youngsters..

Others??? Not sure might have missed someone.
