International Cup U19 Summary through Friday
In U19 American, it looks like the Pink Panthers and Icecats Elite are headed for a showdown in Pool A - both have four points and should be favorites in their first games tomorrow. They then play each other at 4:40 pm. In Pool B, the Jr. Whitecaps appear to be in the drivers seat, going 3-0 and winning by a margin of at least 4 in each of their games.
In the U19 National, a round robin, the Northern Blades and East Side Eagles have four points each, the St. Louis Elites and and B&B Bombers have two points each. The Blades and STL Elite face off at 8:20 am in what appears to be the deciding matchup.
A similar situation in the round robin U19 Tier II. The Icecats and the Northern Freeze (WI) have 4 points each, and play each other at 1:20 pm. The MN Wild team, with 3 points, is still very much in the hunt too.
All in all, the three U19 divisions have been very competitive, especially Tier II where the largest margin of victory so far has been just 2 goals...

Well said twoway. There are some excellent players who dont get as much recognition as some. Some of the best team players are not as flashy but very effective. Maybe great backcheckers, penalty killers and take pride in playing great defensively. The best team isnt always made of great skill players.

Is what your trying to say, that team work beats individual play?hockeywild7 wrote:Well said twoway. There are some excellent players who dont get as much recognition as some. Or maybe that this is a team sport.

Agreed on both of these posts. I've watched too much of this hockey and as a result can tell you that there are some great players out there that are either underrated, just don't get as much attention for whatever reason, but are very solid. And 2way is right Pink beat Blues 2x this AAA season.hockeywild7 wrote:Well said twoway. There are some excellent players who dont get as much recognition as some. By the way this is the second tourney this summer the Pink has beaten the Blues. Time to re-think who's a "name"

Re: Any results yet?
Maybe I wasn't clear on this, but my point was that Pink was more proficient in capitalizing on their chances than the Blues. I meant this as a compliment, but I can see how this could be misunderstood now that I reread... Indeed I was the "coach."violionist wrote:ghshockeyfan wrote: This one is correct, and for the record there are some very solid players for the pink. McNamara (G) & Panthers played well, capitalized on their chances, etc., etc. Lots of special team play in this one. "Coach" almost got sent out of the rink during this game! Extremely talented Blues group on paper, but the game is played on the ice.Frustrating 9:20A game followed by this 2:10P one for the squad made for a long morning & early afternoon!
Take a look at who the Blues play tomorrow @ 8:40A too... It just gets tougher!

Someone needs a diaper change.
I think both teams had power play chances. Pink had them the first and the blues had their's in the second. Both teams had 5 on 3s. And GHShockeyfan was the coach.

In examining the rosters, is it my imagination or do most of the Icecats on the championship team have at least one year of college experience, while most of the Jr. Whitecaps are high-school aged? If so, congrats to the Whitecaps for holding the game so close. Hard to expect a different outcome, but great experience for the younger Whitecap players.
You are correct. I was at the game it was very entertaining to watch. Fast paced and end to end action. I would say that the Icecats were a little crisper in their passing and able to finish when given the opportunity. The Icecats controlled the play during the first period and then it appeared that the Whitecaps became comfortable with the game speed and played a much more even game in the second and third. It was a very good hockey game to watch, with a lot of talent on the ice.demongoed Posted: 06 Aug 2007 04:43

Speaking of rosters with college players. The Northern Blades were loaded as well. Gigi Marvin and Holly Roberts, among others were on roster. Not sure of the other players; didn't see roster. They could have given the Icecats all they could handle. Marvin has to be the top player in Minnesota. Big, strong, fast; very impressive to say the least.
