Does anyone know anything about this week long event/tournament? My daughter just recieved an invitation to play with Team Minnesota but we are not very familiar - is it good hockey?

My daughter was also asked and after I checked around found nothing but good things. Unfortunately my daughter has HS soccer tryouts that weekend and we couldn't attend. I would recommend based on feedback I received. Hope this helps.

There was a time that it was. And it could be again, but they put too many players on a team, so ice time is limited. If your kid was in the NDCs, I wouldn't bother with it, especially given the costs of travel to come east, as they have already been seen by most of the college coaches.

That being said, those that have played in this showcase read like a who's who of top D1 talent.

IMHO if you go NDC/P P3 NY you probably are known well enough, so any added travel east to these events just helps - esp. if you have a goal to play out there? I think the kids that get the most out of the travel there from MN are those that may not have made the NDC/P P3 or those that may not have done very well out there and can use the opportunity to show better to the east coast crowd (along with others). Also though, some just like to do these for the fun, play with teammates, and do a nice job representing MN.

A much better return on your investment would be to do the NAHA showcase in late June. Each team is run by D1 and DIII college coaches, with an Olympian or top collegiate player as assistant, and plenty of additional coaches in attendence during the camp. The rosters are comprised of 9 forwards, 6 D, and 2 goalies and they run a small area games tourney, as well as full ice games.

In addition the showcase is run like a camp, with practices, and off-ice sessions, plus stuff about the college recruiting process, compliance, and so on.

Bottom line is that you get skill development, game sense development, exposure, and college recruiting process enlightenment for a decent price and a lot of ice time.

As far as going east and a complete package offering for the $ it sounds well worth it.

As far as visibility, is the NAHA Labor Day event one of the top ones? How does it compare to the Boston events, etc. from a visibility standpoint?

Everyone (coaches) turns out for NAHA because they know that the parity and level of competition is high. If you look at rosters from two years ago you will recognize most of the names as a who's who of D1 talent that played this past year, or is about to enter this coming season.

I think the list of coaches/programs in attendance also reads as a who's who...

This has been a good tournament. It has been a good chance for the girls to see alot of schools as everything is so close and it has given them a flavor for the Northeast and Boston.

Minnesota (4-1) is playing for the Championship today against Mid Atlantic (4-1). There are a number of very talented seniors a few juniors. The four younger players on Minnesota have been surprising and very impress contributing a lot of scoring, website is not up to date but I think - Milica McMillian (Breck class of 2011 is leading scorer in tournament), Gina McDonald (Irondale 2010 - 2nd leading scorer in tournament), Lindsey Burman (T-breds 2010 - 4 points) and Maggie Pendleton (Hill Murray 2010 - 4 points).

Minnesota lost 2-1 in a great championship game to Mid Atlantic - they had beat Mid Atlantic 6-1 or 7-1 the night before - Mid Atlantic goalies stood on their heads today.

I am sure they will cathc up and post the officail scoring on the Hockey Night in Boston website but what I saw on the white board.....I think Minnesota ended up with the top scores - 1-3 in scorers.....Gina McDonald 7 G 4 A, Elsa Brustle had 1 G 10 A, Milesta McMillian 4 G 7 A. I don't think anyone was close on goals to Ms. McDonald she is very very good might have been smartest player in the tourney drew many penalties with her great speed - she will only get better over the next three years. The Minnesota goalies each finished in top group at #2 and #4.

Good report, and nice to hear MN kids doing well. Not surprised by any of this though... ANd, I assume one of those MN goalies is Jondal of CDH who should be a Ms Goalie finalist this year...

Jondal definitely one of the top goalies; although rumor has it that she has to miss half the season due to state transfer rules. May hurt her for top goalie award.

Rachael Borchodt of Willow River and Lea Jondahl were the Team Minnesota goalies and both played outstanding. Jondahl is a great kid and appears to have many of the intangibles that great leaders/goalies have she will definately change Cretin even if she is allowed to only play half of her senior year. Apparently smart kid to she was looking at engineering schools in the area.

I hope the college coaches out there have their eyes on these two goalies... Too bad Jondal is out half the year!

I was there on Tuesday and saw a few prep school coaches and no college coaches.

Unfortunate no college coaches watching this event. I guess these MN kids will have to get looked at through other ways and they will even back here in MN I'm sure.

There were actually a pretty good group of scouts over the period watching Team Minnesota.

Minnesota did well in All Star game placements and awards. Amanda Ryder was named MVP of Team Minnesota. Milica McMillian named one of four "Most Surprising", Gina McDonald top scorer award, Gina McDonald & Elsa Brustle 2 of the 4 top forwad awards and Maggie Pendleton 1 of the 3 top defenseman.

Again good experience for anyone who wants to see the east and maybe thinking about going to school in the area.

Anyone from MN should probably know that most the kids we had out there are good and so - to us - are not "Most Surprising!!!" McMillian is a very solid player.

My understanding is that there may be more well attended college scout events out east but still a fun trip east for the kids, etc.
