Artificial Shooting Surface

Post by SportsMa »

Found a slick surface for shooting pucks outside. It is plastic that our daughter says simulates puck movement on ice pretty well. The plastic is used to line the beds and sides of sugar beet trucks. Our lake neighbor is a sugar beet farmer and mentioned it to us as a possibility he has observed our daughter try a variety of surfaces over the years outside for shooting. He brought a 5 x 8 used sheet out. There are some small holes where it was attached to the truck on the edges but does not affect shooting and it is easily washable. It sits outside without any weather damage.

So, if you know a sugar beet farmer, help them by taking the used plastic off their hands and make your daughter smile.

Ah, nothing like recycling to protect the environment and improve one's shooting skills at the same time. After using the small surfaces sold for shooting and finding that they were, indeed, small, I picked up an underchair hardwood floor protector from Staples for my niece.

At about 4 feet square there is plenty of space to stickhandle and shoot, as well as rack pucks, and since it is very thin it weighs but a few pounds and is easily moved and stored. She has had it over a year and it has held up very well, even when sitting out in the sun for days on end.

We have a 5 X 8 sheet of lexan used for lighted signs. Seems to work fairly well.
