I see the Section 1A tourney has been moved to Owatonna. I like it, it makes more sense for the teams that now comprise 1A.

That got me thinking about who has the best/nicest/my favorite arena in 1A?
1.) AL - Acoustics are terrible, but lots of good memories
2.) Waseca - Still seems new, it must be well taken care of.
3.) Red Wing - Been a number of years, but I remember it was nice.
4.) Faribo - Kind of the opposite of Waseca, but we've gotten lots of W's in that building.
5.) Austin - Nice improvements, but I've never liked that place.
6.) Northfield - I hear the City, Hockey Assn and College(s) are trying to build a new rink. That's a good idea.

As a northfielder, I would say DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH. The city is in complete disorganization and St. Olaf does not want to give any money to an arena. Carelton and Icenow.org were doing some good things, but if you don't have two major players involved, how is it going to happen. For one small brief moment, "The Structure" had a little something, but now it is just crap. I love the armpit analogy. We have rats, mold, no heat, poor management, and crummy ice. 60% of our youth ice time will be at other ice arenas and no one in the city really cares, but that is what you get from the town of drugs, liberals, and apathy. Hey, look forward to seeing you all at "The Structure".

I've been reading this forum for a long time & finally got my own handle. Congrats folks - this is the lamest thread of any on this entire board. Many of the other threads are based on exchanging ideas related to hockey. This one is a bunch of pi$$ant high schoolers poking at each other. I'm outta here.

I have no stake in Section I but have actually enjoyed reading the (mostly) good-natured bantering back and forth. There are a few dedicated souls down there who obviously take their hockey pretty seriously :!: and take pride in supporting their hometown teams and programs. :D

Southern Minnesota might not have the rich hockey tradition of The Range and certain Twin Cities programs. But I remember when John Marshall surprised a lot of people when they won the boys' state championship (1977?) which really put it on the map. Since then it's mostly struggled at the tournament level, but Section I has produced some very excellent players, both boys and girls. I hope the game continues to grow across the Southern part of the State, which is something that the dedicated group here certainly wants to see happen too.

I'm afraid you're both right....this is the "lamest thread" but us non 1A folks who follow it are the bigger idiots!

Don't shoot back...I already shot myself in the foot! :D

Yes you guys are the most entertaining goofballs out there. A good comparison is to the Warroad, Crookston, Roseau thread. The 1A people have fun harrassing each other. The northern folks sound like they really hate each other--it's not fun to read like this one.

So how else would somebody know that this is a lame thread unless they actually read it?

What is the outlook for the various 1A teams? Are they working hard in captain's practices or just waiting for the season to start? Austin is taking a 7th grader that played 12A in Rochester last year. Are they that thin? Are the other 1A teams veterans or real young?

hockeypux99, I hoped you enjoyed your 5 seconds of fame on the 1A thread. You had the lamest post.

Faribault is playing up in Showcase. Playing very well and starting to come together as a team. We are the perfect mix of veterans and younger players. Our leadership is in place. We will be ready for the start of the season.

Why didn't Albert Lea play in the league? Scared of the big city? Can't read a map? or just can't read??

I see Austin is doing really well up there? Not.. I bet I could take a wild guess, and say that they are going to be really thin. I watched them play for a period. They had a bench full of kids. I think they had 17-20 kids. 2-3 good players. Who is the 7th grader from Roch? Why would you transfer to Austin?

The Austin 7th grader has a parent in Austin and the other in Rochester. She played 12UA in Rochester last year. I heard that she attends school in Austin and AYHA wouldn't give her a waiver to Rochester so they decided to stick it to AYHA and just go high school. I wish her well.

"Why would you transfer to Austin?" Maybe coach Bray is a super duper nice guy.

5 seconds of fame to HPux? For one post?

Another big question is who will coach the AL girls? Steve Falk is still listed on the mshsl website. I've heard they're having trouble finding canidates. Maybe a 'co-head coach' tandem of Twinnesota and RSI? :?:

You HAVE lost your mind....

It's too bad that just when it seems we have the best team since the girl's hockey program started, that we seem to lack the leadership we need.

Here is how I see it
#1: Albert Lea, didnt lose much
#2: Faribault, good but I wouldnt say as dedicated
#3: Northfield, close match between them and AL
#4: Austin, lost their main players but they still do have a few good players left. One player that is or is soon to be their team.
#5: Redwing, I dont know much about them so dont have much of a say.

Oh I'm sorry I forgot a team.
I forgot waseca. Now I would switch waseca with austin. I know Austin beat them last year but due to Austin's loss of players Waseca probably would beat Austin. So I would put waseca in Austin's position in my section standing and put Austin one below them. Still in front of Red Wing because I dont know what to say about them.
