Leaking Bantams
Sounds like there may be even a bigger disparity comparing the top few teams with everyone else with all of these top kids opting out of Bantam A's.
I don't like this trend. I understand that exceptional players at small associations should be moving up to JV or HS, or in some cases, move up if they are sophmore grade Bantams. But, at large associations, the competition is still of a high enough quality to develop players at the Bantam A level. I don't know why a parent would rather have his son play for a team like Fire than for Lakeville, EP, Edina etc.
It used to be that kids grew up on the rinks together and played together. Now there seems to be more competition and politics and bad blood within the associations which is just plain stupid. Are we teaching our kids that when life isn't perfect enough for you, just bail out? Or is it that this certain AAA coach is going to really make that big a difference with my kid? I doubt it.
So far, I've heard the following key players leaving their associations for greener pastures or HS. I give them the benefit of the doubt that they all have good reasons. Add or subract from the list if you'd like.
Chaska: Reilly
EP: Faust
Edina: Pieper (also played for Shattuck last year) Sit will miss part of season w injury.
Lakeville: McNeely, Reid, Schroeder, Koska, Peterson (triple ouch)
Blaine: Bjugstad, one returning D (name?)
Centennial: Flynn
What about: Roseau, St Cloud, Wayzata, Woodbury, WBL, Stillwater, Duluth East, Maple Grove, Rochester? Others? Any significant move-ins?

Agree
my2cents,
You said it Bro'! The grass is always greener on the other side and parents are most definitely sending the wrong message to their kids. Once your youth hockey years are over they are over for good! You will never get those year back. Parents are on a race to that proverbial D-1 lock that they forget the joy of playing the game at the youth level and in the process step all over each other with stupid comments and actions.
Enjoy the ride and the firends you make along the way it will be over before you know it and than all you are left with is memories.

Regarding Lakeville South and its meltdown, it seems there are no end to the reasons I've heard. Clearly the the biggest reason is dissatisfaction with the association. This group of skaters in the Lakeville south program have enjoyed great success. Back to back state tourney trips as peewees and one game shy as bantams with an appearance at VFW state. As peewees they went 3 and 4 against E.P., Edina and Wayzata. How much greener does the grass get? Just my opinion but I think its truly a case of looking ahead to what comes next, tough part is whether it be Lakeville or anywhere else most of these kids have 4 years of hockey left...period. A few will move on but the majority will play small college at best. Makes you wonder if Mom and Dad can see the forest in all those trees.

Sad Deal
That is a sad deal right there. Was looking forward to seeing those kids match up against some of the northern teams this season. As Bob Dillon would say "the times they are a changin'".Mcneely, reid ,shroeder, kroska and peterson all bolted
