Jared Festler

Post by gopher1011 »

Just saw that he got 4, count it, 4 shorthanded goals in Lincoln's game today. Nice to see this kid make a great transition into the USHL. Must have been a great show in their 7-5 win.

Good for him. He is proving good hockey players come from other public schools besides Warroad, Roseau, Moorhead, Edina, Grand Rapids, Duluth East or any of the other so called power-house schools.

I don't think that Jared is a good example to cite the capabilities of a particular school. Mr. Festler has always played with a passion and fire that if you watched him - you knew that he would figure a way to win. I would bet, that his coaches at LF would be the first to say that Jerad benefited from a number of coaches in addition to what they taught him.

I am ecstatic about this kid. Saw him play once in his first exhibition game last Friday and he played alright and had a shootout goal, but he obviously needed a week to get adjusted :D 1 assist, 4 shorthanded goals, 3 of them unassisted. I'm no expert, but 3 unassisted shorthanded goals must mean he singlehandedly took the puck from the other team and skated in and scored. Wish I were there to have seen it. Oh well I'm sure I'll see a lot of that from this kid this year. So excited to see how he does in the USHL. Anyone who's seen him play a lot, what makes him so good? He doesn't appear to be a top-notch speedster. Just excellent hockey instincts or what?

What I think makes Festler so good is that he can play so well in the o-zone, down low. He is very strong on the puck (hard to knock off the puck) and he has some very good hands. You are right he is not a great skater, but he plays so well around the net.

I wonder if those 4 goals were cherry picked against weak competition?

Chicago isn't the best team in the USHL, but the league is more balanced than MSHSL. Four shorties against ANY USHL team is extremely impressive.

I don't believe Festler is a cherry picker. He's a smart player that knows where the puck is going next and can read the play very well.
