Ya some shaky goaltending for Northwest early kind of opened the flood gates. Was pretty chippy on both sides in the first 2 periods.

I know that if you ask for it you might get it. We pretty much roll the lines and if a couple of guys are not playing very well they may miss a shift or two. Otherwise we roll the lines and everyone has been on the PP and PK. I expect everyone to play with passion and hunger and anxious that if they don't someone else will be in their slot. That is the way sports works. The sooner they get a grasp on that the better chance they have to stick around in the game.

Again if I was a scout I would sure check out our seniors and see if they could help my junior A team.

Souix Fan does a very good job as a coach and promoter of southern MN hockey players.

Like most coaches (bosses, admins etal) not everyone agrees with what you do and what you say.

But John can be proud of what he has done and is doing.
There is no better promoter of S. Minnesota hockey than Sioux Fan. Each and every kid who plays for him will be a better player. All he asks of each of his players is to go out and give an honest effort each and every shift. If you can't do that, you might not want to play for him. My guess is his son was an underdog as a player but his work ethic attracted D1 attention and he carved out a pretty nice career at North Dakota.
Yes, John has done a very good job coaching in the Elete II league. I know a couple of players that have played for him and learned a lot about what it takes to play the game. I support him 100% Keep up the great work John.

So any predictions on Northeast vs Shattuck? Do you think that Northeast can at least keep it close? Shattuck always gets the Friday, Saturday and Sunday schedule so they will be a bit more rested.

Not a chance

This Shattuck team is probably better than last years National Championship team. The only team that has had more than 14 shots on them is Team Wisconsin. Good luck stopping that 1st unit.

Ben Montgomery (Oakdale)
Mac Williams (Mound)
Derek Stepan (Hastings)
Jordy Murray (Faribault)
Geoff Sadjadi (Faribault)

Luke Greiner is listed as being from Faribault, but is originally from Southern California and played his pre-bantam hockey there.

Northeast 4 Northwest 2
North 6 Southwest 2
I heard Shattuck 12 Southeast 1 from Friday night. Not 100% sure if that is totally accurate

Shattuck won 9-1 shots were 59-13. It was over 6 min into the game. 3-0. That is the worst Elite team in it. They were bad. With or without the 3 guys missing.

yeah shattucks got a real good team this year. Looks like wisconsin has been the only team to keep games close against them, it'll be interesting if a team can pull an upset against them soon.

Northeast had an excellent game. Killed off 20+penalties at least, 2 1/2 periods worth. Speed and Physical play kept them in the game.

Northeast did take a large number of penalties and played a physical game. The loss was due to the speed of Shattuck and them not being able to control their emotion, in particular Barnes.

Yes Northeast got a little out of control. I think if they can stay out of the box, they could play with this Shattuck team.

2 1/2 periods short handed???

Post by hockey nut »

The Shattuck kids play with this emotion almost every night. They have to, because teams are coming after them every night. That team yesterday was every bit as talented as Shattuck, but the Shattuck kids understand the game alot better. They move the puck better, they go to the net hard every time, they don't take dumb penelties like Sova and Barnes. The Penelties were 14 for Elite team 6 for Shattuck. 3 of those penelties for Elite team were for yapping at the Ref. Barnes took one, Sova took one, and 1 other. The bottom line for me is there are at least 3 teams so far that I have seen that are deeper than Shattuck, but the Shattuck kids play the game alot smater than the Elite teams. We all know if you take a bunch of penelties against Shattuck, they will beat you. That 1st power play is real fun to watch.

I would assume they do play smarter than the Elite teams. Afterall, how much are they coached and how much time do they practice together each week? Plus, they practice power plays and systems.

Do they have a power play unit? Elite teams typically roll the players. If Elite team coaches were playing strictly to win they would play things differently. Yes, all teams are trying to win. But, I believe it is a developmental league.
