Well-rounded kids
Hockey is just his favorite SPORT. He plays baseball, clarinet, drums and guitar, too. These parents that think their kid has to concentrate on one sport year 'round should read about Chris Drury. Guy pitched the championship game in the LL World Series and also is an excellent NHL player. Expose your kids to different things and see what THEY want to do. Playing on the "best" team may not be the best thing for your kid. Had a coach tell my son, when he was 8, that it was the "opportunity of a lifetime" to play goalie for his team. My son turned him down to play center with his friends and they won the league championship. Then he tells me, "Dad, this was the best season ever". It is not about me and what I want but about what he wants (within reason of course!).
I wonder if any of us knows enough about the Machine teams. I first saw them in June and I thought they were amazing. I have since seen them play six games. The last game I saw was when the 96 Machine team beat the 95 Predators in the championship of a 95 tournament. Everything about these teams is different.
1. They never stand on the bench
2. They skate full speed to the penilty box
3. They do not cheer after a goal
4. They wear ties to the games
5. They are the most disciplined group of young athletes I have ever seen
This just what I can see from the stands. Yes it is being different, does that make it wrong. It might not be for everyone, but these are the best teams I have ever seen. I went to see one of their practices and Glen Sonmor was there. I spoke with him and ask him why he was there and he said "to watch the orange team's passing practice".

Point: Relax guys, let the kids play where they play and parents spend what they want to and who really cares, we all know that 1 in a million make it. I'm sure there's a swiss forum as well where they're talking about little Johan and little Pet'er playing for Swissmade Hockey and how they're on the ice 1000 hours a year...who cares.
Enjoy the ride, because it goes fast, then suddenly you're not with your oldest kid who can play and instead with your 8 year old daughter who can barely wheel at all and you're just thrilled she has that big smile on her face because she loves hockey!!!
I like this post jancze. You are dead on.

No, they cannot cheer. Dads and Moms must wear ties. Parents cannot stand during games. Parents must run full speed to and from the bathrooms, making sure there is no toilet paper stuck to their foot.
