Pre-Season Scrimmages

Post by joehockey »

Does anyone know of scrimmages planned for the next two weeks before the season starts?

I have heard Hill Murray is going up North to Duluth to play 3 scrimmages November 2-3 but don't know other teams involved.

The teams playing in the Duluth Girls Hockey Jamboree on Nov. 2nd and 3rd include Hill Murray, Cooper, Cottage Grove, Eagan, Irondale, Hastings, Eastview, BSM, Breck, Notre Dame (?) and host Duluth. They all appear to be one hour scimmages with most teams playing 4 times.

Duluth sounds like competitive teams. Centenial usauly hosts one, Brainard I think does, Grand Rapids does, I think Simley does. Does Rochester? Any know the teams at any of these?

What's the theory of thought here, do most of these teams use these as a try out, or do they play them out with their varsity players?

The Lightning usually host something in Grand Rapids and/or Greenway and Hibbing usually hosts something.

Yup....the Bison are coming. I saw the itinerary but failed to convert it to memory! November 9th & 10th.

This will be our best team for several years to come. Looking forward to the season beginning!

I think this varies by team and coach. Usually by the time these scrimmages are played, the varsity team's players are set or mostly set, with maybe a few that are still on the bubble. Coaches also use these to try players at different positions, experiment with different line combinations, etc.

Saturday Nov 3rd in the morning and afternoon at Richfield: AHA, Richfield, Stillwater and Blake, I think are the four teams playing in a round robin affair.

These can be pretty artificial. For some, coaches will play fourth and sometimes fifth lines; sixth, seventh and eighth defense; and second and third goalies to figure out the bottom of the roster and reward some hard-working kids with an out of town trip.

I can confirm that EP is hosting those 3 teams on Saturday November 3rd starting at 10:00am in the morning in their Main Rink (still under construction but the rink is open - I'm not sure how good the spectator seating will be with the construction though). Scheduled to be over late afternoon.

Does anyone know why the Thief River scrimmages got moved to Roseau? I don't think it saves anyone time to drive to Canada for a scrimmage.

I'm not so sure they're trying to save time. It's about having the girls come together and play some northern teams. Roseau is a great town with great people. Our girls went there a few years ago and loved it.

Thief River has an awesome rink. Paid for by the same guy that set up UND. Their second rink isn't all bad either. Just seems it would be a little more central for most teams. The "Little Ralph" had to rank as one of the most impressive high school rinks in the state.

Not sure of how it went, but last night at Richfield there was a scrimmage between South St. Paul and Orono. Is that not a little wierd to have those teams at Richfield?
