Oct 26-27: Minnesota State-Mankato @ Alaska-Anchorage

Post by Zamboni Guy »

The Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks will stay in the WCHA this weekend as they travel to Anchorage, Alaska to face off against the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves.
The Mavericks opened their 2007-2008 campaign with high hopes last weekend in Houghton, Michigan but were rudely swept by the host Michigan Tech Huskies in two games putting them at 0-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the WCHA entering this weekends games against the Seawolves.
The Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves have been enjoying a bit of a renaissance this season as they have stayed unbeaten through their first four games played but have yet to enter the vaunted WCHA schedule. This weekend the Mavericks will be looking to remind the Seawolves how difficult league play is in the WCHA. Entering this weekends games the Seawolves sit at 3-0-1 overall and 0-0-0 in the WCHA.

Last Weekend:
Minnesota State-Mankato:
- Friday: Lost to Michigan Tech 2 to 0
- Saturday: Lost to Michigan Tech 7 to 1
Alaska-Anchorage:
- Friday: Defeated Alaska-Fairbanks 4 to 3
- Saturday: Defeated Alaska-Fairbanks 5 to 3

INCH Power Rankings:
Minnesota State-Mankato: NR
Alaska-Anchorage: 20

Thoughts or predictions for this weekends WCHA match up from Anchorage, Alaska?

So the six freshmen in the lineup will include defensemen Ben Youds, Kurt Davis and Channing Boe and forwards Andrew Sackrison, Rylan Galiardi and Brett Peterson. Peterson, an Elk River native who played with Indiana of the USHL, will be making his college-hockey debut.

In this series I think Alaska-Anchorage will continue to make some noise within the WCHA. I'm going to go with a Seawolves Sweep over the Mavericks for Mankato.
