Oct 26-27: Minnesota-Duluth @ Denver

Post by Zamboni Guy »

The unbeaten University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs will take their show on the road for the first time in the 2007-2008 season as they travel to Denver, Colorado to face off against the Denver University Pioneers in WCHA action.
The Bulldogs are coming off of an impressive sweep over the St. Cloud State University Huskies last weekend during which the defense of the Bulldogs seemed much improved and a team first mentality in the offensive zone led to more than a few tough situations for the Huskies goaltenders. Entering this weekends match up against the Pioneers the Bulldogs sit at 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the WCHA having played all of their games thus far in the friendly confines of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
The Denver University Pioneers split last weekend against the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend, Indiana. The Pioneers opened their regular season with an impressive home sweep of the Maine Black Bears, before traveling to South Bend last weekend. Entering their first weekend of WCHA play the Pioneers are sitting at 3-1-0 overall and 0-0-0 in the WCHA.

Last Weekend:
Minnesota-Duluth:
- Friday: defeated St. Cloud State 2 to 1
- Saturday: defeated St. Cloud State 4 to 2
Denver:
- Friday: lost 4 to 3 to Notre Dame
- Saturday: defeated Notre Dame 3 to 1

INCH Power Rankings:
Minnesota-Duluth: 14
Denver: 5

Thoughts or predictions on this WCHA match up from Denver, Colorado?

This series is intriguing for me, last weekend Minnesota-Duluth really looked like they were playing well as a team and their team defense was great against a St. Cloud team with some proven scorers. This weekend; however, the Bulldogs will be without Michael Gergen who did not make the trip to Denver due to a high ankle sprain sustained last weekend. Denver is also a very good defensive team which would lead me to think that there is a very small chance that we will see a blowout in either direction this weekend. I am also looking forward to see how the Bulldogs react to the bigger ice surface away from the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. For my predictions; however, I am going to go with my heart...Minnesota-Duluth Sweep! Let's Go Bulldogs!

I think it will be a split this weekend. I have yet to seen Denver play but i was at both UMD games and they were very good defensively. They blocked a ton of shots both games and Stalock is a very good goalie. They need to find a consisent goal scorer for them to continue to progress.

Bulldogs get the split with a nice 3-0 win tonight

They were outshot pretty bad but Stalock played very well and they came away with the victory

HUGE for tUMD to come out of Denver with 2 points. Pretty solid start to a very very very difficult road stretch for the Bulldogs. It is sooo nice to see Stalock finding that groove that we all knew he was capable of, but saw too little of last season. :D
