Brainerd Warriors 2007-2008

Post by lampthelight »

I see they have 2 players that most posters seem to think have a shot at Mr. Hockey. But how will the TEAM be in 2007-2008?

I know that last years Bantam A team was one of the better teams in the state, but i do not know much about last years HS team, or who they have coming back off of it...

Anybody have any INTELLIGIENT information about this years team?

Lamplighter your evidently from Brainerd and probably know the skinny, but i'll give you my take. On D they return a pretty solid crew led by Drew Olson who is a top 5 player in the state.. Up front they will return the top scorers from last year with Shepherd and Frazer. Along with them there are a couple of seniors who played a role on last years team. The juniors should include Tamasy and Kaufman. I would guess you will see a couple of sophmores at forward that played on that Bantam team last year. The question is in the net. The senior can be good but was hot and cold last year. If he can play consistantly this team has the potential to do well. I think you might see a few starts from the sophmore goalie against some weaker teams, but in my opinion it's the senior's spot to lose. Moving to sec 8 should be good for the Tribe. I know Roseau is there along with the Spuds and maybe Buff but NONE of those teams are a lock like most people think. Roseau will be tough no doubt, but unbeatable no.

IndianHead, Your are 100% right, I am from Brainerd. No need to hide that. However, i really don't know a lot about this team at all. I'm curious to see what i can expect to see from my Warriors this year, I have been unable to watch them play for the past 2 years, so i really know nothing about any of the players, and I was surprised to see TWO let alone ONE player talked about as a contender for Mr. Hockey. Thanks for your input on this years team, Its was 10 times more than i know!

In the somewhat educated category (from the section 7 website) it looks like the Warriors have 6 forwards and 4 defenseman returning from last years team. The returnees contributed 50 of 85 goals (58.8%), 80 of 135 assists (59.3%) which is 130 of 220 total team points (59.1%). Last year when the Warriors scored more than 3 goals they went 13-0. However, when their opponent scored more than 3 they were 3 wins and 5 losses. They averaged 3.3 goals for and 2.7 goals against, scoring 85 goals to their opponents 71.

I would say (in the uneducated mode now) that if they can continually score more than 3 goals a game (the leading two scores are returning) and hold their opponents to less than 3 (math wizard here) they should be fine. However, I think the second part (opponents < 3) will be a challenge. The rumor is that a couple of Pequot kids are trying out for the team, including a goalie.

Well they lost two defenseman that were captains last year, and one of them was arguably their most consistant defensemen.

At forward Shephard and Frazer return a lot of scoring, but they will NEED to step up and score in sections games this year, which last year was prodominatley done by two players that have since graduated.

Brainerd has a great playmaker in Frazer. A solid scorer in Shephard. A Top defensemen in Olson. After that they will need senior forwards like Monda, and Engel, and Junior forwards Tamasy and Kaufman to pick up some scoring this year. Also look for Sophomore Bren Smith to play a key role offensively this year on at least thrid line, more then likely second line.

Brainerd will need to find other defensemen to play with and behind Olson. Look for Seniors Swanson and Korte, Junior Ring and Sophomore Rusk to be the main candidates for significant playing time on defense.

Goalie situation will be up in the air, as last years MVP departs from the goalie position.

Projection: 1st CLC
3rd 8AA
