Rogers 07/08
Well it's getting that time and I am interested in knowing about the Rogers club this season. Without a doubt CNT will have his opinions but it would be nice to see others chime in....

Last year they won 20 plus and gave Blaine a tight game in the Sections...I would assume you're probably from one of the area's that has had a wealth of HS Hockey success? Let's not forget that Rogers is taking alot of kids who at one time attended Elk River...and I think they have had a few players and teams in their day...chillout wrote:This being said with no offense to them whatsoever, but has Rogers ever had a good team? Even in past years? Nothing against them, just curious.

Play-in game
I think they will play in the 8-9 seed game, maybe advancing to the quarter-finals again, then be dispatched. Blaine and Centennial are waiting...

Yes they did lose by 3 but the game was better than that...Chill asked if Rogers was anygood and I mentioned they beat 20 plus teams and gave a state tourney team a tight game...I guess I thought my answer was fairly obvious...if you feel like you need some more explanation I can break my kids crayola's and take you through it.mnhock20 wrote:If they didn't beat blaine... then why would you bring it up? They lost by 3 if I remember right... moral victory i suppose?

Nice Neut!
Here's the short history on Rogers.
1st year section 5A 2003-04 they went 4-20-1 and had only 60pts, got throttled by Neuts(Cent) team 20-0 that year. Lost 9-0 1st round in sections to Mahtomedi.
2nd year 5A 04-05 went 7-18-1 had 103 pts, lost twice to Totino 15-0 and 13-0, and lost to Spring Lk Pk 9-1 1st round in sections. 40% improvement of previous year based on win -loss.
3rd year 5A 05-06 went 16-7-3 had 223 pts, only 2 losses were by 2 goals the others were one goal games, lost 6-5OT to Como in 1st round of sections. 56% improvement.
Last year 06-07 4AA went 21-3-3 had 309pts, and 9 shut outs, 2 of the three losses were to Buffalo, and Tartan, and both in OT.
Beat Champlin in the 1st round of sections and then lost to Blaine 4-1 in a game that was tied until midway into the 3rd period. 24% improvement.
This year they are 5AA, they have a schedule that is more AA then last year, facing teams such as Armstrong, Tonka, Hopkins, Osseo, Maple Grove, Buffalo, and Coon Rapids.
I expect to see a more balanced win-loss record this season, by playing a much tougher schedule then last year, they may not win as many games as last year but the days of the blowouts against them are gone, they'll be competitive in any game they play.
The future looks bright for a program only entering it 5th season, and now having a home rink of their own will only increase those #'s.
They currently field 9 Mite teams, 4 squirt, 3 PW and 2 Bantam

HOFamer - who thinks Rogers will be better than an 8-9 seed? What are you saying, maybe a 7 seed? Who says they'll be better than that, we'd all like to know. BTW, can we get a wrap-up on the youth games last Sat. night at Rogers vs. Elk River, CNT your welcome to chime in as well.

Re: Rogers
Name six teams in that section that are clearly going to be better than them. I think you will find that you can't. Like CNT said, they will be competitive in every game.Bench Major wrote:HOFamer - who thinks Rogers will be better than an 8-9 seed? What are you saying, maybe a 7 seed? Goldy - name 4 teams they are clearly better than. You can't. CNT - any scores from the B levels? I see you listed 2 games, which they split, but the truth is Rogers was 1-5 for the night, right? Let's be honest with ourselves CNT

If we're being honest "too many men on the ice", few if any of the B players will make the high school team in which we are judging.Bench Major wrote: CNT - any scores from the B levels? Not sure where this is heading, or what BM's getting at about being honest.
However,
1st I told you the scores or outcomes of the games I knew, which were the games I had any interest in.
2nd that's a youth topic so take it there.
And what about Waseca? Rogers has spent 3 of the previous yrs in 5A and thought they were in 5A last year, in that time they developed a relationship of playing Waseca when there were not many teams that would take Rogers on there schedule.
So it's good for Waseca to come and play here as well, it's probably a pay back game IDK.
But it's funny that you poke fun about their opponents, when last year Rogers had Totino Grace back out of a scrimmage, after Rogers thumped Mahtomedi.
So BM whose wagon are you riding on?

Seems pretty impressive to me...going from that '04 season to last years 21-3-3. I understand their schedule is definitely not the toughest out there, but only losing 3 games the whole season is pretty damn good, especially considering their earlier years. I would consider atleast having a game with Blaine's team last year something to be proud of if you consider the infancy of the program.

Bottom line here is that Rogers while not an elite team but has some very good players and can hang around in any game...This is a growing Association that in the relatively near future will be a hockey powerhouse...mark my words. The days of hockey glory in ER are done and Rogers will eventually overtake them and become the Northwest suburbs Hockey Giant.
Look at the facts...They have a beautiful new rink, one of the fastest growing communities in the Metro, decent coaching and people like CNT who will go the extra mile to make things happen. Rogers is a natural fit for the next outer ring suburb dynasty....give it 5 more years...

CNT does go the extra mile and is very enthusiastic about HS Hockey...however, he does need managing and direction...That's why I am here...Neutron 14 wrote:Who are you? And what have you done with HOFam'r?HOFam'r wrote: and people like CNT who will go the extra mile to make things happen.

5 years from now
Anoka - 2 sheets, Blaine - 10 sheets (SSR inc.), Centennial - 9 sheets (SSR inc.), Coon Rapids - 2 sheets, Elk River - 2 sheets, Maple Grove - 1 + adding another, Osseo 2 sheets. It will be ten years or more before Rogers sees a second rink. HOF can you name a 1 rink hockey power in the metro?Rogers will eventually overtake them and become the Northwest suburbs Hockey Giant.

Centennial home rink = 2/3 Centennial, 1/3 Blaine
Super Rink 4 = 1/2 Centennial, 1/2 MASC
Super Rink 8 = 100% Centennial
Centennial = 2.1667 sheets
Blaine has the two at Fogarty(Some % they split with Spring Lake Park) and two at the Super Rink in addition to the 1/3 at Centennial.
