If you can't join 'em, beat 'em - Made tournament
Who has the stones to field a group for this one?

Can you find kids to take apart the Machine and lay a Deuce?
Questions about the superior developmental model of one Bernie McBain will go away if his Chosen Ones don't sweep the hardware.
I haven't been this excited about a youth sporting event since Mr. Miyagi brought Danny Larusso to take down the Cobra Kai.

Wow !!
$1395 a team for 4 games.
That's $697.50/game
And for breakout that's $348.75/team/game

Pretty steep!

L O N G games though
CNT:
To be fair to Minnesota Made, those four games are (for some crazy reason) 60-min STOP time.
When I was in Squirts it was usually 15 running throughout. Sometimes we may have done 15 running for the first two and 12 stop in the third.
While it is just four games, I think an argument can be made that it is a "7 game equivalent" as far as ice time.
Another observation is that with games that length it will be hard to show up with less than 13 skaters on a team. The cost gets spread.

I'm not looking at the sheet, but your math in this post is way off.
$1,400 is $350 times 4.
Half that is $175.

Let's see 2 teams hit the ice each team payed $1395.00, still with me here?
So between those 2 teams they paid $2790.00 are we good so far.
Now divide that by 4 games and what ya got? 697.50 each team paid $348.75 for that game.
Or else I'm having a real bad day here

60-min stop time for a squirt makes me think of the old WCHA playoff format of 2 games total goals. It was basically a 120 minute game.O-townClown wrote:CNT:

I gotcha. You are counting the revenue to Minnesota Made and Bloomington Ice Garden, or at least to the business entity that runs the tournament. Can't Never Tried wrote:

I'm just looking at cost to the teams entered. Doesn't seem too bad to me when you consider this probably appeals to out-of-state teams where the biggest cost will be getting there.
Now I'm curious. Will this be well attended? Do the teams come from the Twin Cities or out of area? Sun Belt or Detroit? Canadians?
I'm going to make an early prediction and go with the Texas Attack over the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the 97 division and Machine over PF Chang's in the 96.
Betting windows now open.

Doesn't Bernie charge roughly 300 per hour for rink utilization? MM is a for profit business. Factor in ref costs and trinkets = roughly another $100 per hour. CNT, does that add up to $400 per hour? Can't Never Tried wrote:O-townClown wrote:[quote="Can't Never Tried]

Assume 16 team tournament, each team plays 4 games
Total of 64 games.
16 Teams each pay 1395 for a total of 22,320 of total fees
Total fees 22,320
Total games 64
Fees per game 348.75, or rougly 175 per team.
Assuming avearge ice fee, during the summer of 175 plus refs, no more than 2 per game, total $50, so profit per game about $125 or about $8,000 for the tournament.
Re: If you can't join 'em, beat 'em - Made tournament
Keep in mind he makes money on ice time as well. Afterall, he and his investors own the rink.mnhockey36299 wrote:CNT I think your math is a little offCan't Never Tried wrote:O-townClown wrote:[quote="Can't Never Tried]

CNT, I think(no, I know you are right).
There are 32 games, I have ran these type of events probably 150 times (maybe more).
This will make someone some nice $$.
Of course, if they own the rink privately, they need to make some money - operating a rink is not a money-maker without these type of things. (But at $175 per hour and they can keep it reneed in the summer - they should do okay. And then throw in this event and similar smaller scale events - it comes down to how much capital in the initial rink investment.)

I just couldn't grasp how $1395 divided by 4 is not $348.75

Should profit at least 175-200/game, after everything.

I am flattered that you would take time out of your day to read my posts. you must have been bored.
Personally, I don't want people to know who I am or where I am from. That is my prerogative. Trust me, I have been around the sport as a player and in many other capacities..........including a hockey parent.

I don't care who you are or how old your kids are, but for clarification:
This tournament is not for Mite/Squirt age kids. The birth years coincide with players that will be 1st and 2nd year Squirts, 1st and 2nd year Pee Wees, and 1st year Bantams in USA Hockey. (I know this isn't perfectly aligned with Minnkota.)
Squirt/Pee Wee, yes. Mites? No.

We all have monikers. Some happen to have multiple.

Elite teams
Feel like I am listening (reading) to a bunch of kids (unfortunately mine) at the dinner table. Let's get on with it- who cares what amount of money he makes or charges. It is certainly in the price range of other Tier 1 tourneys. The real question is can this tourney draw the "real" elite AAA teams? Not just a bunch of MN and other 2nd rate MB teams teams with AAA in their name. At that time of year he needs to do something special. This is smack over sacred family vacation time and after all of the best Elite Spring Tourneys have finished (except for The Brick Tourney- 2nd best youth tourney out there). By the way, the 98 Machine was not invited to play in this Edmonton tourney. 20 minute periods are great, that is a good start (even though some of you are slamming it). Hope I am wrong about getting great
competiition but probably not.
competiition but probably not.
thinkb4engaging.... You must be a parent of a Blades player. In fairness, the Machine teams are never invited to the Brick tournament in Edmonton because the Blades have an agreement with the Brick that they are the only team from Minnesota to play in the tournament. The tournament orangizers have explaned this to the Machine organization that they unable to invite the the Machine because of the agreement with the Blades.
I state this only beause your last post made it sound like the 98 Machine team was not good enough to play in the Brick. We know that if the Blades are a strong enough team then the Machine certainly is, given that the Machine won 2 out of the 3 championship they faced each other in.
To be on level I am a 99 Machine Parent.

Brick Tourney

The Blade Brick team is interested in bringing the top players. Your son could ask to be on the Brick team and go to the tryouts if your son (playing on the Machine) is at that level. This has nothing to do with the Machine winning tournaments or the Blades winning tournaments at that young level. Last year the Blades Brick team brought the best team from MN it could put together and came in 2nd place. This is not an opportunity which your child should miss if given the chance to go play in the Brick with the Blades Brick team. You will be told by Bernie that your son can not go to the Brick. For all the good Bernie does, this approach exposes a major character flaw. Remember it is about the kids- I would think Bernie could put aside his ego and feel good about a few of his players making the Brick team. Look at it like ALL STAR break and taking some time off for you child to experience something special. It is not about the Blades vs. the Machine or the Icemen etc.
