It was a great game. The score ended up close but Breck totally outplayed Orono. A Breck Freshman who grew up playing in Orono with most of their sophmores had a big game and scored a couple of goals and assists.
Breck did whoop them pretty good. Cam Born was the frosh that had the big night. I do however agree with Tigers33's "sources" that Orono was a better team last year and probably will be again this year as they have several very talented Juniors and a couple of good seniors.

I beleive that Breck and Blake split last year, Breck Beat Orono and Orono beat Blake. They should all be in the hunt this year for the 2A berth. Blake may have the best player in Birkholz. Breck has a ton of young talent, but Orono probably has the most talent with a kid (Persian)that may be just as good as Birkholz. My guess is ORONO should win.

Keep your head up this year. Size matters. To call Dressen "decent" shows how ignorant you are (All State in lacrosse, All State in soccer, All-Conference in Hockey), Doerring led the conference defenseman in scoring as a sophmore , Johnson is a goalie, and I would take Sievold over anyone on your team....Anyone.

CareBear,

First. Ligthen up Francis! Were just havin a little fun here.

Second, If they were so good....
1-They would have beat Orono at state instead of getting shut out.
2-They would have swept those "little" Breck guys.
3-They would have found a way to get by that powerhouse St Agnes.
4-They would have won the anemic Tri Metro conference instead folding like a house of cards to Breck in the season finale'!!!!!

And lastly, why are there so many kids named Blake at Blake? Do the get a scholarship! :D

Good luck this year to the Bears. I hope they can do well as it looks pretty bleak next year after they lose Barnes, Sievold and Dressen to Grad and Birk to the USHL.

You are right. We did lose to Orono in the STATE HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT. Did you have a chance to catch it on TV? Or were you watching film on the Mahtomedi games? I don' think I am the one on here talking smack about how good we were last year or rippin on individual players at Breck. I am not even pushing the issue as to why your coach left. I hear the team chemistry over there with the "ultimate sophmore class" is quite remarkable. They should erect a monument right now, maybe they could call it the "Born to Play" or "Born Identity Crisis" or maybe "We came, We saw, We lost to Spring Lake Park", or maybe "If we only had some D" Relax: Just havin some fun

I have said all along to be easy on the smack because it can go both ways
Lets just wait and see how "bleak" it is. See you January 29th. In the mean time, lift some weights and hammer some protein shakes, your gonna need them this year. Is there anyone on your team over 160lbs?

Goo Goo Bear,

 I love the smack!

Come to think of it your right, the Mustangs are a pretty light bunch..... But just maybe, that's why they were able to skate in, out and around those -big bad State Tourney no show 2 and out Bears- in the 3rd period with the game on the line!

Seriously, the Bears will be fun to watch this year. Good luck and see you in sections!

I think Mound is going to surprise a lot of people this year. They've got a veteran team, not a whole lot of size, but they are going to be probably one of the fastest teams in class A. Johnson and Horgan will obviously be the top scorers, but they've going to have a great second line as well, Jami Johnson, Colin Mayer, and Tom Zelandra will have their fair share of points as well.

Their defense is definately going to be a liability, losing Casey Horgan is gonna hurt, but they've got Brian Nelson between the pipes, which helps big time.

Bottom line is that Mound will put a TON of pucks home this year, and I think they'll be playing in the section championship.

Agreed. It is going to be a great section. Does Mound have enough depth?

I also think Mound will be a team to contend with. They might have one of the most talented forwards in the section. Not sure of his name off hand.

Not sure anyone in here cares that some kid was all state in lacrosse and soccer. This is a hockey site. Was he all state in hockey? The bottom line for both blake and breck is that neither of your programs are dominant like they used to be.

Tigers33,

I only saw them play once last year during the season and once in section play. They lost both times to Orono in pretty lopsided affairs. Do you really think they have enough talent to get past Orono?

While Breck and Blake may not have the dominalnt teams of the past, it would probably be unwise to look past them. It will be interesting to see who Breck brings in for their coach. I've heard they are close to making the announcement.

I think his point was is that Dressen is a very talented athlete and that Goldy was overlooking him as a hockey player. He is a VERY good hockey player too.

Brian Nelson is overhyped IMO... dont get me wrong he's a decent goaltender, but he isnt THAT good. In regards to Mounds defense, they will be hurting this year. Definately Mound's weakness.

If you are using last year, then yeah, I agree with ya, he was decent. But he has improved big time this summer, I saw some of their scrimmages this summer, and he looks a lot sharper. He's gonna need to be sharp, because you are right that Mound's defense will be down.

They went down to Shattuck for some scrimmages I think, and some team from Norway.

If you saw some of their scrimmages, wouldn't you know where the scrimmages took place and who they played?

Bottom line...I wouldn't put too much emphasis on summer scrimmages - they're virtually meaningless.

Mound will finish in the top 3 of Section 2A no problem. I'm just saying their defense will be their weakness this year. They probably will have one of the best first lines in Class A with Johnson and Horgan doing a ton of scoring. Dont get me wrong, Mound will be a GOOD team.

It looks like each team has a couple of studs, blake with birk, mound with johnson and horgan, orono with persian and the hansen bros, then breck with rehkamp and the 10-12 sophmores that are all big question marks still. So which team has the most overall talent, or the team that can come up with the most talent? I believe the team with the most talent spread throughout all 3 or 4 lines will be the team to win the section.

I agree. They should be a good team. Should have a lot of fire power this year! Hopefully Willet can coach them to victory this year.

Everyone is talking about Orono, Blake, and Breck in this section. Mound could contend but i really don't see them getting past those 3. Yes Orono,Blake, and Breck are all down this year but i would take a down team of those 3 over a decent mound team anyday. Brian Nelson is ok but not gonna anchor them too well. In my opinion its gonna be a toss up between Orono, Breck, and Blake this year for the section, and winning will be whoever is peaking at sections and shows up to the rink ready to play.
