Appeared to be a cup presented to the Russian squad. They either won the fight or the game.

That's a pretty sweet video. How do you stumble across something like that?

Did you see that Russian at the tail end of the fight jump on the back of the USA #40 guys, then yanks his helmet off from the back. Probly was attached? Was that cheap.

The ref stood there because they are taunt (at least through USA Hockay) that they need to have their partner with them when they break up a fight. Safety in numbers kind of thing.

Refs probably didnt do anything becasue they were probably from russia and saw that the russians were winning that fight, so they didnt want to stop anything good for their country...

That was embarassing. The only tough guy was our goalie.

Also the Russians were the ugliest group of young men I have ever seen.

I am not congradulating the russians on the fight but atleast they stood as a team. That one kid (about 60% of they way thru) helpled out his friend. I maybe the only kid on here who has played jr's but if your buddy is getting his butt kicked in a line brawl, you help out. The worst part about that is it made it look like we started it and backed out after we lost it... The development team is made to help those kids get into college and is a supplement of Jr's from what I am told... They would be better off going to Jr's if they work as a team like that. It's not an individual game so shame on whatever coach told them it was. If your buddy is getting his butt kicked, you step up and take a few for him in the name of the team. How dare any player for not getting involved (on the ice at the time) and how dare any american player on the team on the ice at the end for not swinging. The game is not about fighting but if your teammate is getting owned and you have already cleanded out yours, you help him out. TEAM GAME, we have to act like it no matter what the situation is.

The old homer theory. Take a look at what US Hockey had to say about it (see below), not much. I wasn’t at the game and can only read a little into what happened but………Look at the penalty count. Both goals scored for Russia where on PP, plus a penalty shot denied. Must have been a rough game to officiate, with what could have been frustrating for the US players.
When you watch, the attitudes of the players and officials just prior to the brawl ensued take a look at the positioning of everyone. After the face off, the puck heads to the far side boards. Start counting from the time the puck is dropped to the time the US player lays a hit on the Russian. I count about 6 seconds from the puck drop to the hit as well as the Russian players raising their sticks in victory. One last time to make a good hit on a guy and let the frustration out, and leave as much as you can on the ice. In my opinion, he kind of had a butt kicking coming but again, I wasn’t at the game and don’t know the whole story. At hit at the horn can great quite an explosion, of which it did. You can see the lineman anticipating the hit, and most likely knowing that was to come. He starts skating down the boards in anticipation of the horn sounding, and getting into position to separate players. The far lines man was obviously watching for the same thing as you can tell by how fast he got to the scrum. The ref, stands there and starts taking numbers and it is up to the linesmen to break-up the fits but you can only do so much.
My assessment is the game was getting out of control and there had to have been a lot of animosity between the teams before, during, and obviously after the game. People most likely had a number or numbers (jersey) in their mind because players where grabbing players and going at it. The goalies, well it is obvious who they are going to take.
I am glad I wasn’t wearing stripes at that game, and I would be very interested to see the entire tape.
