Televising games was a great idea, and in the last couple of years, they've done a good job spreading things out, but this year they've done the north an injustice. The defending champs get on once(maybe twice)but Stillwater is a given? No GR, no East, but Cloquet vs Buffalo? Who thought that would be a better matchup than Roseau vs Rapids from the far north? A rematch of the state finals is more appealing than most of what they've got scheduled. It appears there is only three maybe four north teams listed which is another slap at northern teams. Why don't they just sell a package and call it ANYONE WHO IS NOT FROM THE NORTH? I really do think it's a joke. As a hockey fan in general, I'd rather watch Roseau vs anyone or GR vs East compared to Stillwater vs whoever. At least mix it up a bit.
Cloquet
Warroad
Roseau
Eveleth
Lake of the Woods
Moorhead
Is the problem that there aren't northern teams, or that the one you care most about isn't on there?
I Think he is saying where is:
Hermantown
Hibbing
Duluth Marshall
Grand Rapids
Brainerd
etc.
And just making a general statement that the metro coverage is far more than the northern coverage. Northern hockey has been very strong the past few years, especially last year. There is no reason to think it won't continue to be.
Each of your statements is arguable.
1. There's probably a higher percentage of metro schools NOT on FSN than northern.
2. We've had 1 northern champion in the last 7 years.
3. There is reason to believe northern teams arent as strong this year.
I think last year the big whine was about northern teams not getting enough exposure in the Twin Cities papers.

Grand Rapids
Brainerd

Probably in the same place as:
Bloomington Jefferson
Anoka
Lakeville North
Rosemount
Woodbury
Roseville
and
Wayzata
Did anyone suggest that the strength of Northern hockey had subsided?

After last year's title game, they'd be a fool to say so... even if they thought it.
I might sound a bit bias being from up north, but it's hard to beat the rivalries that have developed in section 7AA, such as betweeen Grand Rapids and Cloquet. I was at the game last season played in Rapids and there were a bunch of Edina dads sitting behind me who were up there for a youth tournament. The game happened to be very good, so the atmosphere was terrific. These dads were blown away with the size of the crowd, and the energy in the building that afternoon. I'm sure they've seen many great games at Braemar over the years, but there comments led me to believe that they truly thought this game was something special.
I can understand why an all-northern game might not be apealling to the rest of the state, but I don't see why they can't televise some of the games between northern and metro teams. WBL, Centennial, Wayzata, Apple Valley, and Edina all come visit Duluth East at some point this season. I'm sure Grand Rapids, Cloquet, Marshall, etc. have some good teams coming to visit them too. Televising those games would be great for those who don't want to travel up to the north and would satisfy some of us angry northerners a bit.
Sounds to me like a northerner with a video camera and some computer savvy could be in for some major cash if they can get northern hockey games on the web.

And then us Citiots could bitch, piss and moan about them not coming down here to webcast metro games.

That would be AWESOME!!!
Sounds like Crystal Clear Sports will probably do some hockey on the web this year, but I would guess that their schedule will be limited to rinks that can give them a high speed connection.

Uh, Mr. Obvious here.
Edina plays East on a Saturday and FSN is broadcasting games mid-week. Aren't most of those cross-state tilts over the weekend?
Is your gripe that they aren't showing weekend games? Another poster was upset at the lack of Northern teams when in reality it was just that they weren't the ones he'd like to see.
I think FSN should be applauded for covering as many games as they are.
The East-Centennial game is mid-week, and WBL and Blaine, which I neglected to mention in the last post, are on Fridays.
However, I asked around a bit and found out Randolph didn't want them on TV this year. I'm not sure I completely understand why, though it could be a reaction to the Buffalo game last year, when being put on TV against East pretty much made Buffalo's season.
I guess my gripe isn't about a lack of northern teams, it's about the lack of 7AA teams, aside from a Cloquet-Buffalo game that's hardly a thrilling matchup. It seems odd to ignore one of the state's strongest sections, but I'll let it rest and enjoy what I can get from FSN.

Wow...Karl is disrespting the Bison again...if i remember right Buffalo did win against DE last season in a jammed packed building full of energy...sheesh I can see where Randolph won't want that...I know Randolph and there is no way DE absence has anything to do with the Buffalo game.
IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF MONEY PEOPLE!!!! It cost about double to broadcast northern games opposed to staying closer to home. Gas is $3 a gallon and Fox does bring alot of people and has to make several stops previous to the game. Not to mention a number of other expenses that occur when broadcasting further away.
As for Karl-The Bison won and it's time for you to move on and quit your whining...sheesh.

I didn't read Karls post as whining, I read it as he is embarrassed that East lost to Buffalo. He should be...
embarrassed or whining, whining or embarrased, doesn't matter. DE is going to be both alot this season so Karl better get a new pair of rose colored glasses to wear..obviously the others have worn out.

Mock my words...
East will "finnish" in the top 10, Buffalo won't. Get ready to dump your jaded colored glasses.

East has a GREAT coach...and he can make them a top 10 team. Buffalo can play Nuet...but they will be relying heavily on Juniors and a soph...however, their goaltending can keep them in any game...aka East game last season...we will know alot more about buffalo when they play in the Turkey trot next weekend...
They might need a new system to adjust to their talent...in the past they have defensively for good reason but this year they seem to have somre of the the talent necessary to play more agressively and to attack the opponent...we'll see what they end up doing.
Jerrod Rienholtz is coaching the forwards and he was a tremendous HS scorer in his day..maybe he will implement some of the tricks of trade he knows...it's wait and see on Bison but expectations certainly are not for a top ten club.

More likely he doesn't want the Pioneers breaking down his video, since this year's Championship will be a replay of 1991.

02/09/08 (Sat) BAUDETTE BAY CLASSIC, Baudette Arena - Outside, Baudette, MN
::::::::::::Eveleth-Gilbert/Mesabi East (7A) vs Lake of the Woods (8A), 10:00 am
::::::::::::Blaine (5AA) vs Roseau (8AA), 1:30
::::::::::::St. Thomas Academy (4A) vs Hill-Murray (4AA), Xcel Energy Center, 1:30 Note: FSN is to decide the day of on which game to televise at the 1:30 spot on 02/09/08.
I'm not sure why they would want to wait until game day to decide unless they envision some type of technical/weather difficulty at the Bay.
Anyone heard anything clearer about this now that we are closing in the date? I'm hoping they broadcast the Blaine v Roseau matchup.
They are Broadcasting the St Thomas Academy vs Hill Murray at 1:30 then Immediatly Following the Gophers-Denver they will run Roseau vs Blaine on Tape Delay.
pacman is right. FSN has been running ads the last two weeks during Gopher and Wild games that show the HM v STA game at 1:30 and the Blaine v Roseau game at 11:00 PM (possible it was 11:30). I plan to make a day of it, and I plan to stay up and watch my hometown Blaine team take on the evil champions from the north...
Thanks for the info guys. I like your plan Sparlimb. By the way- I also think your hometown club has a very good chance to shear the sheep which should make for an exciting game.

Wild.com states that the Blaine vs. Roseau game will be played after the Gopher game which i would assume that means the HM vs. STA game would be at 1:30 just to reaffirm what spar stated
