To tell you the truth. I don't know how Lucia can handle the revolving door. Somehow he needs to get some of these players to stay at Minnesota for at least 3 years.

If you want to compare championships wayyyyyyyy back. I heard Lou Nanne in an interview last year joking. Back in the day UND had players in their lates 20's, married with kids playing for UND. Come on! That is borderline cheating.

Like I said! Why would anyone want to play hockey in North Dakota?
Please spare me with the nice arena garbage.

Keep in mind! You're not going to want to hear it. I hate to say it.......... UND fans are in the same category as Packers fans. What else is there to do? Not alot of choices in both area's. Anyone for bowling or chess?

Poor Don. The kids he gets are so darn nambit good that he can't win--they all leave to the NHL. He should just quit. Kids do want to play in ND because there is an Applebees, and I think they just put in one of them there McDonald's. Is it true they have sold 1 billion hamburgers? Wow, that's almost as much as one million. We sure have been shown up by you big city folks, ya know, only winning 7 championships to yer 5. Maybe ND will be able to catch ya all one day. Some big city huckster once said you count success by the number of championships you have. Oh well, ND is bound for futility

Gorilla1- Well spoken. Like a true North Dakota gentleman. Like I said. You can count all the Championships UND has. Please don't forget to count all the 30 year old freshman, married with kids.

I do agree. Lucia needs to open up the borders. This is something that he communicated when he arrived at Minnesota. The good old boys didn't like to hear that.
Makes you wonder if the good old boys club at the U of M have other plans.

Gorilla, say what you want. Lucia is the best coach in college hockey. Don't forget the damage he did when he coached at Colorado College.

Keep in mind. Every year it comes down to whoever is playing the best hockey in the NCAA's. Look at Michigan State last year. No one predicted that Michigan State would win the title.

It will be interesting to see where Minnesota and UND ends up at the end of the season.

Last but not least. Keep sending your good players to Minnesota. If I was them I wouldn't want to play at UND either.

Congrats to the UND cow tipping team. I heard they finished second place this year to Nebraska for cow tipping. Next year UND has some top cow tipping recruits coming in from Iowa.

If championships that were won over 20 years ago are supposed to be what we focus on today, I guess we should all bow down to Michigan's nine titles.... even though 7 of them were won prior to 1965.

Surprising, he doesn't seem like a UND type of a player to me. Seems more of U of M player with more of a finesse game.

I'm actually in agreement with much of what you wrote with the exception of one thing ---Scott Owens is BY FAR the best coach in the WCHA. He is a weird guy but one of the finest tacticians I've ever seen or talked to. Don is a better looking guy and that is about it.

compared to:

Martin
Kessel
Vanek
E. Johnson
J. Pohl

Guys like Kessel and E. Johnson are there for only one year. Do these recruits want to end up like Irmen or Potulny? Leaving early and not making it (yet and Potulny has played some). You just have to respect there decision and what they believe is best. There really isn't a wrong choice and you can't get mad at them for doing what they feel is best.

Barry Tallackson (has seen time in the NHL the last two years... though not there at the moment)
Jeff Taffe
Ben Clymer
Wyatt Smith
Erik Rasmussen

If you are going to start throwing out comparisons like that, try to do enough research to not make it appear so one sided. I realize bias may get in the way but c'mon...

Given guys like Potulny and Irmen only went pro a little over a year go, you have to give them time. Some of it depends on their pro team's need and some of it depends on their need for more ice time in the minors.

A lot of these guys (both Sioux and Gopher players) needed time in the AHL after leaving college before seeing NHL ice. Parise spent a year there (though he didn't have a choice with the strike at the time). Bochenski spent his first year in the minors (and a good chunk of his second pro year too). Pohl took time. Most of them do. It doesn't happen overnight for all of them so I wouldn't be jumping to conclusions.

The way I see it is all you Minnesota fans on this board ripping on North Dakota just have your panties in a bunch because the past two years you've gotten North Dakota and Holy Cross stapled on your a**'s.

You almost got Air Force on there also.

North Dakota is a great program, and its best years are in the years to come. Congrats to Nick on the decision.

This year. UND should be better than the Gophers. I don't think anyone will dispute this.
The NCAA always comes down to the hottest team at the end. Perfect example: Michigan State last year.

I'd much rather watch college hockey than pro anyday.

But in that case if we are talking college than Dean Blaise was by far the best coach in the WCHA, and that was the reason players were going to North Dakota in the first place. He was the reason their program got good again.

And to Boogeyman:

Come on, this is a High School Hockey website, it's bad enough that you bring in college hockey, but now you stop talking about hockey in general and start trying to rip on North Dakota as a state? Grow up.

Dean Blaise was my choice for the gopher job long ago. Class guy, great coach.
