What about the private school to the North. The education is great, not as expensive as the southern schools. And lets mention the hockey team...in the past 10 years the team has turned for bad to a state contender each year.
Go Hilltoppers!!!
No question they are a very good team the only problem is the drive to school would be a little long

Youso, Ballard, Oshie, Forney, Fulton, Sackrison, Niskanen, Wyman, Gordon, Pohl, and many many others. Calling A hockey the "B" Squad is a little much.
You can make as long a list as you like, Class A schools cant be considered the best. If Sidney Crosby had played at a Class A school, it wouldn't change a thing.
Class A schools have voluntarily disqualified themselves from consideration.
If they wanted to be considered with the best, play AA.
Its as simple as that.

I'm pretty sure the question was best private school, not best AA private school. But what do I know, after all I have a public school edumacation!!!packerboy wrote:You can make as long a list as you like, Class A schools cant be considered the best. IMO, which is hardly singular, you cant have a complete and meaningfull discussion about HS Hockey without it.Walter Sojack wrote:Packerboy, lets stay away from Private vs Public, A vs AA. You should know that
But that aside, you sure can't discuss the best without reference to what competitive level the schools athletic program is involved in.
I suppose if a school was so vastly superior in every other category, it could play in a lower athletic class (like Duluth East does in football)and still be the best.
But there is no such animal out there.
Therefore, regardless of the titile of the thread, Bsquad schools need not apply.

We go from a somewhat intelligent thread about a legitimate question to out and out private school bashing. I love this game!!!!!etune21 wrote:public schools like edina and roseau that dominate private schools day after day are the only thing that allows me to sleep at night. eff Holy angels, eff CDH, and most of all eff St. thomas
By the way, if Edina (who I unfortunately believe is the best team this year) dominates the private schools so much, why haven't they been to the State tourney as often as Hill, CDH, STA, AHA have been the past 10 years?

I have to agree with Coffee Connoisseur on this one. What tourneys are you talking about them being banned from anyway? The "Frostbite Falls/Backbacon/Hoser Invitational" or the "Youbetcha/nine year old stained Polaris Jacket Jamboree?"

Last time I checked, they are still pretty regular attendees in St. Paul every year whether we like it or not.

What tournament am I talking about? Private Schools were not allowed to play in the state tournament until 1975. Reason. Private schools recruit from around the metro area and attempt to "build" a team. What you're left with is stripping schools of the players they developed from a young age in order to build their programs. Which, is what I think is the major problem with HS hockey today. The idea that schools can manufacture a team. Agree or not, it's still what's happening today. At least there's teams like Roseau still winning--the only thing that keeps me watching HS hockey.hockeyrocks wrote:61ACHE,Walter Sojack wrote:Thats a ridiculous statement

Holding a grudge since 1975? Bummer that all those other kids get to play on a team? Come on. Pure ignorance. Free Enterprise! That is what your town was built on. Look arround.

You should know better than to bring up a public vs. private debate - you're going to get this thread locked. What tournament am I talking about? PS: I watch highschool hockey because I love the passion the kids put into the game. Not because good 'ol Roseau is winning. And I wouldn't stop watching if AHA and STA won state the next 5 years.

I don't know if this was a self-fulfilling prophecy or just my experience of knowing how these threads turn out. Attaway, guys.east hockey wrote:If this thread turns into yet another public vs. private topic, it gets locked, and any future topics which even smell of the same will be deleted as soon as they're started.Jbone wrote:How fun would it be if kids stayed where they came from. Just so you know.
